• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Documented 630 part failures - known weak areas

DYNOBOB

Husqvarna
Pro Class
Seems like it might be helpful to make one place for someone/new owners to see things to be aware of on their TE/SMS 630. Could be anything from pinched harness, bearing failures, temp sensors, etc. For instance, I'm trying to remember if there has been a documented failure of a fuel pump on a 630, I can't recall one.

Maybe tell what failed and replacement part source/number (ie. temp sensor)

You could also just post a link to your thread. Many times these threads are 20 pages back and hard to describe in a search.

In less than 1000 miles I lost the license plate/it broke off and the kickstand sucks.
Mounted the license plate high on the fender and cut the bottom off, bought an aftermarket steel kickstand off this site.
When I was mounting my Uptite skid I noticed the wiring from the stator running up the frame between the exhaust, it was really close and starting to burn, I looked at my WRR and the stator wiring ran up the side of the engine away from heat, I rerouted my stator wiring from the frame and up along side the cylinder and behind the radiator, used a couple zip ties to hold it away from anything hot.
I've heard about the temp sensor and check bolts/nuts especially the rear sprocket.

Here's a few, I've had most of them... :p

-Fuel pump tank gasket leak.
-Tail subframe when using luggage.
-Steering bearings get notchy fairly soon due to unsealed neck tube.
-Alexon radiators fail and start leaking.
-Lower chain guide wears out prematurely.
-Insert nuts in fuel tank and airbox sieze on bolt and spin in plastic.

ETA: too slow on most of those, haha

Here's a brief rundown of the issues that I've had that weren't just normal wear & tear:

Kickstand scratches swing arm (was like that when I took delivery)

Ignition switch bolts lost

Oil pump cover leak
After lots of trial and error, what ended up solving the problem was a new clutch cover & oil pump cover. Just a new oil pump cover and seals didn't fix it.

I thought that was only an early model 610 problem. You had one break on a 630?

_
Does he even have a 630? :P
Best friend's crankpin sheared on his SM630 around 5000 miles. We thought that a bad engine assembly might have been the reason for it never ever running out well and only making 40hp *after* Power Commander and Leo system. It wasn't. That particular bike was just a dog. We haven't heard of anyone else with a 630 having such low power and freak failures (he also had all of the failures listed above, plus the usual things that fell off along the way).

Haha, must've been a M/F bike... :banghead:

JD, seems as if you got hold of a lemon!
I know, right? I have had more problems in fewer miles with my 630 than any bike I have ever owned. My best friend calls it a lemon. :)
He's got 50,000 miles on it

.
Hah! Not quite. Still hovering around 12,000. After replacing the cam chain and realizing I'd be doing that every year at the rate I was going, I made the decision to cut back on the street miles and pick up a street bike this year.

The worst part is that you're one of the only guys here that payed original MSRP for the thing... :excuseme:

JD, very glad you got in with the 630 before I did, as you saved me (and likely many others) a load of bother by sharing your experiences. Without the Forum .... I´d have been LOST!

It was a pretty big leap for me. This is my first "exotic" bike. I bought it and had it shipped from the nearest dealer, which is about 450 miles away. It is my first dual sport, with no local dealer support, and I hadn't ever seen the bike in person. Talk about a leap of faith!

I drove 1100mi/18hrs non-stop and had never seen one in person.

ADV thread and this forum to thank. I think I got the next to last new one in the country.
