My only concern would be noise level.

If I put the FMF muffler on my 12 TE 449 do I have to buy the power commander module. It says power up II I think on my display. My dealer said that the 12's came with the power up plug but the 2013's don't. I was told the plug was installed on my bike. Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Cody

I cut my exhaust last night. It worked fine but I didn't realize that you needed to weld the flange back on. I bought an FMF today. Maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Ha ha

OP, what model year(s) does this procedure cover? I was under the impression that the TE has the cat in the mid-pipe?

What rivets did you use to put the muffler back together?

I have done this before and went with self tapping stainless machine screws and it was a nice finish.

I am actually going to order a cheap takeoff and do the decat too - if nothing else, top keep the bike running cooler as I feel like I am riding atop a nuke generator. If I screw it up, i am out $30-40 for an Ebay muffler! If it works, I will sell my old one...no risk that way. I have a strange way of turning simple projects like this into a giant catastrophe...

I just use the closest size aluminum pop rivet that Home Depot sells to reassemble cans. An nice pop rivet tool is a very handy thing and they dont cost much.

But screws will work; just try to avoid anything that might snag your gear....

Aluminum rivet, easy to work with, look factory.

Steel rivets might be better. My aluminum ones worked loose.

I got mine at the local Fastenall.
The next day I also found them at NAPA, I had to ask for them from the counter help.
