  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc WR300 love thread.

Yes IMS fits 11-14 bikes. Secret jetting is to follow JD's provided instructions for temp and elev. Runs great but not easiest starting bike tho I try and start mine sometimes 20x during a difficult trail ride due to breaks need to clear windfall with saw or user induced (me) stalls. If riding say mapped trails then there's much less stopping and starting. Wish bike would start reliably like my KX tho.
Just tried an IMS tank on my '14 WR300 and while technically it does fit, it fits pretty terrible. The front of the seat isn't wide enough to cover the screws the hold on the shrouds. Is the '12 and older seat different?
Even worse, there is enough room between the top of the frame and tank to fit my entire hand between them. I'm sure you could use it to store a spare tube but having that much gas so high up on the bike will surely make it handle like crap.
I put the stock tank back on and will live with it until I get a Lecton.

Should hit the 40hr mark on my '14 Wr300 and it just keeps getting better.
JD jetting from day one, runs great. Starting is pretty good but still wouldn't say it's easy
Installed 5.6 rear spring and .45 forks springs. Way better but just ordered a 6.0 rear and .50 fronts. I'm 185lbs but my gear, camelbak, etc weigh another 30. B rider in terms of speed, A in skill and we tend to ride what most people would call AA trails, kind of Erzberg JR. Lol. Hoping the stiffer springs hold it up better in the real chunky rock sections
Removed thermostat and installed DRC silicon hoses
Skid plate, handguards, rad guards, carbon pipe guard.
ProRaptor clutch lever and MP Terminator cable = one finger clutch
Sedona MX907 rear tire, Tubliss at 5 psi is unreal!

Overall, for the small amount of things I've changed, I'm amazed this bike is so good. I spent more on suspension alone on other bikes and they weren't nearly as good. The power is excellent, plenty of torque, chugs down low without stalling and yet still rips when you want it too. Climbs gnarly hills like you have a winch mounted up front. Handles good for a heavier bike, still working on the suspension setup though. I did realize that a little less rebound will make it feel 20 lbs lighter.
Really loving this bike, if there are still any good deals out there, I wouldn't hesitate to snatch one for yourself. Paid $5k for mine.

I have my WR250 set up a lot like what you are going for. Tubliss, Sedona, Lectron, 5.6 and 4.8, LTR revalve, Tall soft Guts seat, Scotts damper, FMF Gnarly, Q Stealth.. I ride with a lot of different people with different bikes and have yet to ride one of theirs that I like better. You are going to love the Lectron, I was looking at bigger gas tanks but held back because of others who had issues with the poor fit, once I got the lectron I don't have a need for a bigger tank. If you ride wide open stuff on the pipe your mileage won't change much but I swear mine gets double the mileage in the tight technical stuff which is what I like to ride.

On a side note; I think I like the AT81RC a little better then the Sedona but the Sedona I used is harder than the newer ones, I heard they changed the compound and the newer ones aren't lasting as long.

Did you buy the standard sized ProRaptor or the shorty?
Pretty sure I have the standard. It probably doesn't matter much as I position my finger on the bend so whatever is past that is almost useless, (unless your really tired, lol)

My 165 gas mileage improved big time! I don't ride anything open, mostly tight gnarly single track.
My Sedona is holding up great so far but only 80-90 miles on it..
How does the Lectron fit on your 300? I tried my 36mm off my 165 and it pushed the air box boot back so far it was rubbing on the shock spring. It ran great but I didn't want to risk wearing a hole in the boot. I do have a Race Tech spring that is a bit larger in diameter than the stock one which I'm sure doesn't help but there is really not much room around the shock.

What a great thread.
I'm considering picking up a 2011 WR300 with less than 350 miles on it and this thread is definitely pushing me closer to a decision.
Question to you all is would you love an older red one more or could the new blue and white one (a 2015) be a better choice, despite the 3x price difference?

I bought a 38mm after they started cutting them shorter, it fits about the same as the Mikuni. My shock spring misses the boot by a fraction and might be one or two mm closer than stock. Mine is a 250 but that shouldn't make much difference unless the 300 castings are a fuzz bigger.

just more grunt/torque nordman. power same possibly slightly less on 300.

gregdee if money is no issue then go the 2015!

ive wondered how the newer 300 compares to the older 360..the 360 is odd tho as it wakes up sooo much from a good pipe. those double wall oe pipes were horrendous

Money/price is not really the issue but at 3x the price difference one has to at least consider this. The big factor for me is the plate. Plating bikes in NM is becoming more difficult and all the new Husky's (except 501S/350S) will not be "platable", or so I am told. The 2011 I am considering has a NM plate on it. Not that I expect to be logging road miles on a WR300 but it is sure nice to be able to connect sections of trail if the need arises.

Also, the seller tells me his 2011 is a 4 spd, not a 5 spd. Is this right?

Being that the 2015 is mostly a KTM with a few changes, they will not be much alike. 2 of my buddies have newer KTM 300's which would be pretty much the same as the ,15 Husky. I have ridden both and would take my motor over theirs any day. The older 300 motor has better power delivery for extreme enduro type trails and is just easier to use all around. Both KTM's I tried felt too aggressive and harder to find traction. I'm sure a lot of that could be tuned out but the older Husky like mine just needs a JD jet kit and its perfect, at least for what I ride. Desert guys might think the opposite.
I also swapped bikes on this past weekend with my friend who rides a '14 Husaberg TE250 and he was amazed by how good the power was on my 300. His was ok but couldn't wait to get back on mine.
I would choose to save the cash and put it into suspension work which is the biggest improvement you can make on any bike. That's where I'm at, motor is perfect, ergos are great, suspension still needs some work but once I get it dialed this will be one hell of a bike

Got to ride my wr300 today with the ims tank. It worked realy well and felt comfortble between the knees. Im hoping the banana color fades to something lighter.. Rode 40 miles mostly singletrack. Cant say how much i love the Rekluse and the bike as a whole! Also rode my buddies wr250. We both agreed the 300 had a liitle more grunt and easier to keep traction where the 250 spools up a little too quick. We'll see if i still love the beast after next weekends tecate enduro....

I keep going back and forth on rekluse. I use clutch heavily now and pop wheelies to get over stuff constantly. But some of the gnarly singletrack (especially the hills) I could see it being a godsend. Friend of mine said he disnt like his and took it off because he didnt like it. Not sure why. Just curious if you loose any clutch action by going to a rekluse?

Not at all, i can ride the bike normal like its not even there. Its just the bike wont stall, even if i throw it down. We ride alot of big rocks and being on the "short side" its nice i can bobble it and not get stuck.

Bottom line for me is I still have not been beat by a new Husky Last year I ran National # 1 on a old out dated 300 and for 2015 I will run National #2 on a old outdated 300. I have 5 old outdated husky in my garage that almost all the parts interchange between those 5 bike along with
a lot of parts I have will hopefully get me thru 2015. I want a new bike. I also want to race all 8 rounds of the NHHA Hare and Hounds along with all 8 rounds of the National Hare scrambles. Along with King of the Moto and Last dog standing. Then add in all the gas to travel all over the places the dream of a new bike is over. By not getting a new $10,000 bike I can now race all year Bring it on new Husky beat me and I will then start dreaming again

Youb have the $400 or $600 rekluse? Some people tell me just get the $400 one since I have a hydraulic clutch now

I bought the only one available at the time. The EXP 3.0 $400 sounds about right. I have all the makings to install the hydro clutch but haven't gotten around to doing it. The EXP includes VERY stiff springs though so the pull became significantly stronger. I probably should before I start looking like a lop-sided gorilla..
