  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE vs TXC

Well I am trying to narrow down my search and I am thinking that a 511 might be a good bike for me. I am 6'4" 225lbs and C+ rider at very best. Most of my riding is single track but I am looking to dabble, and I mean very limited dabbling...for fun more than anything, in a hare scramble or two. Initially I was only looking at the TE bikes but as I read I wonder if getting a TXC and adding a headlight and taillight might be a better option. Just looking for some input.

i have a 2011 txc449 and it is street legal , and has alot more umph that the te has and it comes with upgraded pipe better suspension and other things, i'm over 6' myself so get on to motosportz and order some 1 1/8" bar risers and it's good to go.
getting a tag is very simple , the mso is ready to title so no prob at dmv.
i got a great deal at central jersey cycle , bob seems to be up on all things husqvarna.
good luck , i love my bike for sure. traction, traction, traction!

For your riding If I were you I would go TE. Suspension is a bit more compliant and the street legal bonus comes in handy.

?? If you are mostly riding single track and dabbling in a hare or two as a c rider, Why would you get a 511? how about a 250 / 310? Sooo much lighter.

As a guy who owns both I continue to contend that the superior powerband and CTS make the 511 the better ride in virtually all conditions

OOOOOOOO a debate****************************************!!!

Well I would say that most of my bikes in the last 4 years have been at least 450s so I am not sure if I want to go down...doesn't make since to me. And I am not much of a 2 stroke guy anymore. As oregonsage said, most of the people I have been conversing with say go with the bigger bike because of my size, and that I don't have to use all the power which makes since....I mean I was riding a Husaberg 650 which was a beast, and the bike I just sold was an 06 Yamaha WR450F and while I feel it was a good bike I wanted to move to something else. Little more nimble and with fuel injection. Soooo.....keep it coming.

BTW the bike I am looking at looks to be danbartol's bike that is up for sale over at AdvRider site. I am guessing since I looked back and found photos of his bike and this bike looks identical.

if i was to do it all over again, i would have gone for the 310 over the 510. the 510/511 is a lot of bike/motor for tight woods and you would benefit a lot getting the smaller/lighter bike. now if your looking to be running wide open fire roads, well thats another story. good luck with whatever you plan on getting.

Just my .02, I am a front pack B-rider and although I'm not as tall as you I am pushing 200 without gear. I recently purchased a '11 TXC250. I bought it mainly because of the insanely low price but I am plenty happy with the power. And I have ridden big bikes in the woods which have always tired me out more. I do mostly tight rough ST so a 500cc bike would chew me up and spit me out! If u plan on doing some enduros go for the bike with the plate. Plus you can hit the streets. If you know you will never need the plate go with the bike with the best price. Also think of resale.....a bike with a plate will probably go faster and for more $. Not trying to change your mind about getting a big bike. I'm sure you will love whatever you get.

I note that the man asking the question is in Flagstaff AZ where terrain is quite similar to eastern Oregon, not the north or eastern woods. He will have to make an effort to spend much time in tight woodsy riding.

The big bore Huskys have better balance, low center of gravity and almost electric motor powerbands (w JD tuner). Comparisons to CRF450s, YZ/WR450s and their ilk misses the point.

The Xlight bikes are nice rigs, but they dont really match up to the 449/511 in my experience. I can ride my 511 from walking speed to blurry sagebrush without ever leaving 3rd gear.

I am a big guy like you and ride mostly tight forested mountain trails and I throw the 511 around like it is mountain bike, no problems whatsoever. My other main bike is a 2008 KTM 250XC (2 stroke) and I am actually faster through the tight stuff on my 511, the ergos are just so much better for bigger guys (6'3" here). My original plan was to use my 511 as my fun bike and my KTM as my race bike, but I am starting to rethink that!

I looks like the OPs looking at danbartol's old 2010 510, not the 2011-2012 511. That being said that particular TE510 has had a lot of time and attention to detail put into it and probably one of the best set-up bikes you could get! The TXC of that era came with a higher spec fork but not the fuel injection (which some may view as a plus).

That is very good food for thought erktastic.....I was wondering if the 450 would be the perfect fit but I like the sound of that extra umph and not revving the crap out of the motor all the time. I am prob 235 fully geared.

Yes I don't know if danbartol still owns the bike but it is in CO and up for sale at AdvRider.....

What are the primary differences between 2010 510 and the newer 511s???? Should I hold out for a 511? There is a brand new 11 511 at a shop here in AZ for 6995 which I suppose I could talk them down with cash.

Still looking for as much info as I can get to make an informed decision.

I'm 99% sure that danbartol's old bike. The differences between the 510 and 511 are huge. The 510 is based on a bike Husky came out with in 04 I believe. The layout of the bike is more "normal/traditional." The 511's motor is based on a BMW 450 and built by Kymco in Taiwan (that's not a knock, from what I've seen lately the Taiwanese QC has been better than that of the Italians). That being said the 511 inherited the swing arm pivot mounted countershaft sprocket (it changes the squat/anti squat characteristics of the bike, some love it some hate it) fuel tank in the rear and other forward thinking features. You'll have to ride both and see what you like.

I will add that NONE of my comments about the 449/511 apply to the 510. A 510 is pretty directly comparable to CRF/YZF/KX bikes IMHO.
