  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE vs TXC

The 511 has 7 HP more than the 449 and a little higher torque earlier on the curve. The 449 gets a little better fuel mileage and may run a little cooler. Other than that, the two are identical.

After 1 good ride on the 449 in hilly woods; not my usual riding area I would say it feels like about 27cc difference :-). Both have JD tuners, and the 511 has more hours so its broken in. I do need to drop the countershaft one tooth on the 449, just like I did on the 511. 6th is useless anyplace buy highway with the stock gearing IMHO, and 1st is a bit high for tight stuff.
Did the JD tuner make much diff on the 449 ?

I didn't ever ride it without. It made the 511 work so well that we added it to the 449 right off the floor. Same excellent throttle response as on the 511.

My 449 runs so good I am hesitant to put the JD tuner on.

Exactly what i said when James (JD) picked my bike up to design the EFI tuner for the 449/511. It came back running a lot harder, reved 3500 rpm more and made 11hp more****************************************! Still runs fantastic but runs harder everywhere. You will loose some fuel range though.

Russ, did you get your suspension revalved by Dave? Did I miss the report?

I rode all the 449 511 TE and TXC models at the NE gathering.

My favorite was a broken in tuned TE449 with stock pipe and revalved suspension. Set up is everything on these bikes.

Dave had to order the springs. Should be in soon. Should have the Clake by the end of Sept. Will give a detailed ride report once dialed. Loving this bike the more I ride it. Everyone else who rides it is amazed at how good it is. Even die hard orange 300 riders. My Gas Gas 300 friend is now looking to sell his GG and buy a 449.
