    TE = 4st Enduro & TC = 4st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE vs TXC

i have a txc now but im thinkin the next one will be a te model with the txc or similar "racier" suspension setup...best of both worlds i hope

Ewww...I am not looking for a bike like a crf/yzf/kx.....how is it like those??
The CTS chassis that centralizes mass and magically absorbs any size bump with zero torque reaction due to the concentric countershaft/swingarm pivot is exclusive to the 449/511, as is the electric engine response that allows you to ride for hours without having your arms turned into wet noodles from absorbing the cammier torque output of the 510 engine.

If choosing between a Xlight (11-12) 250/310 and a 450/510 (2010 back) then I would pick the small bike every time ...and I am almost as tall and heavier than you are. That said I stand by my recommendation of the 449/511 as being superior to....well everything.

Owning a TE511 and having owned several X-lights and ridden many more I echo what oregonsage says. The 449/511 is a great do it all package. If I raced tight woods I might go 250/310... well actually i think i would be on a WB165. the X-light is a great platform but has a REAL narrow trans and is not near as flexible and accommodating for trail riding as the 449/511. IMHO.

The 510 is laid out similarly to the japanese bikes (no CTS, relatively conventional engine/chassis design) but still retains that euro character (top shelf parts, 6 speed trans, hydraulic clutch, sleek styling). The 511 on the other hand is relatively unique. The only other bike similar to the 511 was the BMW G450X and with that being said the 511 is a way more refined package.

drdfblackm The 449/511 models are spectacular, the CTS seems to make the bike track better than anything I have ridden, Fuel injection is incredible(need Race II and JD Kit). The 350/450/510 Husky's are set-up more conventional, Fuel Tank upfront, engine in front of Swing arm pivot point, etc.. The 449/511's are more cutting edge out of the box engineering, Forward Slanted Cylinder, CTS, Fuel Tank under the seat, gas cap in the back, the seat runs all the way up to the steering stem, etc...... I have been riding KTM's since 2004, the TE449 is much easier to ride, climbs better and seems to be a little more forgiving in the ruff stuff, and with a little work (all bolt-on or plug-in) the bike screams, Go ride Gillies 449.

i have the 11 txc449 and it was easy to plate has plenty power ,traction is awesome, good in the tight stuff and on the trails that connect them, i am glad that i picked the 449 over the 511 and i really like this bike alot. i installed a set of 1 1/8" bar risers and a mme clutch lever on it and it is one awesome bike.
the best i've ever owned.

+1 on everything said in the post above. I'm amazed every time I ride my 511 how easy it is to ride. It tracks well when the terrain
gets gnarly. It's pretty tall but it handles so well I don't notice unless it flames out when I'm trying to climb a step-up, which has happened
but rare. It's a really nice all around bike. Being plated is the icing on the cake. I pretty much stick to single-track woods trails and dirt roads
and she's never let me down. Love my Husky.

I don't suppose there is any shot of someone that feels their 511 is too big and wants to downgrade. I don't really want to buy a new one...I mean there is an 2011 for $6995 in my area but that is a little more than I wanted to spend at this point. I have the money but want to pay some bills. I might just be SOL right now and have to settle for something less than exactly what I want such KTM/GG/Beta/510. I am not saying those are lesser bikes by any stretch, but it seems like TE511 is what will really fit me best.

You didnt hear that from me (see pic to left). The TXC has different suspension and lacks the lights from the factory, but it is my understanding that they can be lighted and they are eligible for on road title/registration. Given the great prices that might be a good way to make your own "TE" with the TXC suspension which is a bit more off-road oriented. Either route can get you a great bike.

I would call Bill and ask him about the TXC option before making a decision.

Next question....does the TXC has a lighting coil....how hard is it to add lights?

From comparing on the Husky website the Transmission on the 2012 TXC and TE models are the same...is this true of the 2011

Also...if the engines are the same, why and how does the TXC have a larger oil capacity....TXC 1.27 quarts and the TE 1.04 quarts???

EZ to add lights. They do it all the time. Husky likes to point out that due to the EFI the elect system already has to put out mondo wattage, so adding a light is trivial.

Both TE and TXC have the same 6 speed trans in 2011.

Interesting question on the oil. I would say the TXC number is a typo... mine is under a quart with a filter change.

Great thread! I just picked up a new 2011 TXC511 last Saturday to dualsport. With the money I saved on the TXC I can install upgraded lights and still save a couple thousand over a 2012 stock TE. I was curious myself about the stator output.

drdfblackm, don't know if you saw it, but if you hit the archive tab you can see the specs of the 2011s too.

How is the skid plate on the TXC....is it beefy enough or would you spring for a better one for someone in rocky terrain??

I went through the same thing before I bought my 310, TE or TXC. Went with the te as not as easy to plate off road bikes here. Very happy with the decision, and just took off a bunch of DOT stuff and put in a box in the garage. For your area can see where the 449 or 511 would be a good choice. I went from a 450exc and am very happy with the 310!

i have the txc449 and it is easy to tag just take your paperwork to dmv and it's done. i added a light kit, headlight and tail/brake light , just put a trailtech speedo on it and it's set. the stator puts out more than enough power to run most anything you will need including big 8" race lights.
this is the bike to have in my opinion.
alittle more aggressive than the te model i'd say.
get one !
