• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

So I read that a trials tire would be ok there, but is that the recomended tire? Yuo guys that ride there a lot, What do you use there? Just dont want to be disapointed due to wrong choice of tire, Thanks.

Most people use knobbies there, but most people use knobbies everywhere else too. There are some real rocky sections where the trials tire willl shine.
Overall they hook up good and work well IMO. You won't be disappointed, especially if that is what you are accustomed to.

So........we're in!

Finally caught up on all the info in the thread and answered my own question regarding skill levels. Camp II it shall be. Plan on driving up after work on Friday and riding Saturday/Sunday. Looking forward to some future great memories!

I really want to make it to this shindig. The other half will not be happy about it as I've been gone for 2 weeks and am still not home. If we can make it a family event there's a better chance of approval. Is the area able to be ridden by novices? Daughter would be on crf150r and wife on a ttr125. Son probably won't ride so he's a wildcard. Would be a Saturday/Sunday event for us do to school and driving distance.

No reason not to bring the family. I think there is even a training/beginners loop at the camp area. Plenty of easy trails.

Glad to hear it, Greg! I'm looking forward to seeing you again :)

My plans are a little up in the air, as I'm waiting to hear what Eric's schedule will be. Ideally we'd be showing up early Friday and leaving late Sunday or early Monday. We'll be camping in the Pleasure Palace camper van with a trailer :D

I probably will be rolling in on Thursday too. So it's CampII?
Maybe we can get a crew together to go cut some firewood.

Hope Eric can make it. I like how he throws that 690 through stuff I can only hope to ride someday!

 He's looking forward to seeing you again. He'll be on his GasGas, though..probably the 250 :D

This is rounding out to be quite the event. And Greg bringing all the home brew to boot. WOW. thanks Greg for offering.

This is getting big.... maybe we should change staging areas :excuseme:

Camp II is my favorite cause it offers spots with some privacy, but its not going to the best spot for a huge gathering. We'll probably use every camp spot there and then some.

Should we move this to 2510? Then we'll have a big area where everyone is not segregated. And we'll have the huge open field to let the kiddo's ride in with no blind spots.

-Yeah?
-Nay?
-Dont care, just want to ride?

Xcuvator,
I'm in for the firewood expedition. I'll bring a saw and axe, but I dont have a pickup. There's always lots of seasoned wood out in the dez

I agree, 25 will also not be so shady. The campsites at II are very nice and secluded but would be a little cool? IMO

If need be I can unload my trailer for a firewood run. I saw some people cutting on those little roads off of 2510 a week or so ago.

I have a nice little pile of firewood that I will throw in the trailer. It has been fairly dry lately so we will need to check the BLM burn status.

I would love to make this ride but I am not going to be able to get the time off to make it happen. You all have a blast!

Does not matter to us where we stage as long as we can get to the good stuff! We're planning on meeting at Camp II, 9:30am Sat. (Probably earlier to mooch some doughnuts). If things change, please make a shout to the masses.

Burning in the firepits shouldn't be a problem. The last couple of times I was there I saw many campfires.
A call to the NFS Fox Butte office is what I should do though, to find out about cutting areas and if a permit is needed. ??

Since nobody seems to care too much I think we should move this to camp 2510. Much bigger, no designated/segregated camp spots and the huge field next door is great to keep an eye on the kids. The 3 main camp spots are within a mile of each other and camp 2510 has more 'main' trails running through it, so it makes for good trail access.

I've cut lots of wood out there and never had any issues. Even with the Sheriff in sight. Not saying it was perfectly legal, but he wasn't concerned in the least. I thought we were doing good by burning potential hazardous tree fall :D

I would agree that a large single site will be better so that we can all be in proximity for the intense fire racing portion of the get together.

Can't wait to meet everyone, have a day off, and ride ride ride.

2510 Information

http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/recreation/cohvops/efrindex.shtml

If you take a look at the large map linked there it shows 2510. You can get to it from China Hat road if you want, instead of the directions they give below. You will also see the coordinates near the bottom of the map for you GPS users.

How To Get There

From Bend: Follow Hwy. 20 east about 20 miles. After crossing the Horse Ridge Summit, turn right on the second road, Spencer Well Road (paved Road 23). Proceed south for 5.5 miles until the road forks. Take paved Road 25 to the right and follow the signs to the Camp II Trailhead.

From La Pine: Take the Finley Butte Road (paved Road 22) east about 24 miles and follow the signs to the South Lava Trailhead.

Camping

Road 2510 Staging Area, 25 Staging Area, Camp II Trailhead and South Lava Trailhead all have vault toilets and information kiosks with maps. In addition, there are two primitive campgrounds, China Hat and Sand Springs. Both have vault toilets and maps are available. All camp areas can accommodate large motor homes and fifth wheel trailers. Additionally, all areas have areas for groups to park. The staging areas are primitive with no water. There is no garbage collection so, please PACK IT OUT! The closest RV park with hook-ups is at East Lake Resort in Newberry Crater, however, there is no legal OHV access to trails in East Fort Rock. Access to the staging areas all requires travel on gravel or dirt roads. The staging area closest to pavement is the 25 Staging Area but it is located on a dusty dirt road about 1/4 mile from road 25. Camping is also allowed at any of the many dispersed campsites throughout the riding area.

Fire

Campfires are permitted, but please keep them small and don't leave them unattended. High winds and dry conditions can fuel a wildfire even at unlikely times of the year. Spark arrestors are required on your OHVs, chainsaws, and generators year round.

Later in the summer, there may be restrictions on campfires, smoking, BBQs, and off-road use, so please check at the Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District office or watch for regulations posted at trailheads, staging areas and major access roads.

I'll hang paper plates saying 'Husky' and an arrow at any intersections. Unless someone else does it before I get there.

Its not hard to find.
