• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

PNW Husky event. Bend, OR. Oct. 15-16, 2010

I also would go for Stonyford ... or how about the Shasta Dam area (I forget the name). Nice to see some new trails and some of us could ride share from Oregon. I am open to other ideas too.
I have always wanted to hit those as well.

The Chappie-Shasta trails are really neat. I first rode there about 10 years ago with the guy that used to be the Enduro Steward for the Redding Dirt Riders club. He laid out all the courses for the Buckhorn Enduro. It was April and there was howling snow up top and very warm temps down low. We saw some pretty amazing stuff, most of it unmarked. The BLM/USFS has done a pretty good job of marking stuff since then and there are actual trail maps available now. The problem with that area is it has a very narrow window for decent conditions. There's a little bit of snow in winter and the wet mud is pretty slick there. It seems to go from too wet to blazing hot in no time. It's no fun in the high heat and dust. It would be good for a spring ride next year, or maybe even a fall ride this year but it's hard to get good conditions when planning far ahead for a group ride. That's what bit me in the butt for the Stonyford ride. It was a real shame there were hardly any riders to enjoy what Stonyford had to offer...

Just returned from 8 days @ Shasta =

The weather was perfect 95-105 water was 74 . I vote for a fall (early Oct) at the Shasta Dam trails. I checked it out a little but I had my motard bike so I cant give a full report but looked good. It looks to be open year round and 2 strokes can go after 10-1 .It is only 400 miles from Portland and I think 300 from the bay area. It cant be as dusty as China Hat in the fall. I would definately be down for this trip.

Does anyone remember how many showed up for this last fall?

I know there were 2 locations where people were camping...

**Edit - Event will take place the weekend on October 15-16, 2010 at East Fort Rock OHV area 20 miles east of Bend, OR @ camp 2510. Info, directions and maps may be found here: http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/centraloregon/recreation/cohvops/efrindex.shtml

Camping is free, but primitive. Fire pits and outhouses are on site but nothing else, so be prepared. There's usually plenty of fallen timber for firewood, so I only bring a chainsaw and axe.

OHV tags are required for each bike. <coffee edit - ohv tag will be needed, a license plate does not exempt> Oregon honors most states tags, but Oregon tags can be purchased at both major cycle shops in Bend, OR. Riders under 30 years of age are legally required to have an Oregon OHV operators card: http://www.rideatvoregon.org/ I've yet to see law enforcement actually enforce this, but my statements may not be used in a court of law!!

I'll be staying Thursday night through Sunday, but feel free to arrive as early as you like and stay as long as you like.

**Orginal post**

We've got no shortage of Husky's here. So how about organizing an event so we can all get together, shoot the breeze and ride together?

Gifford would be a great locale. It's kinda centralized between the PNW states and offers the best woods riding. Or we can wait til fall and roll the Husky train through China Hat.

Any interest?
Will you guys be hosting another ride in Bend this year (2011 - Oct)??
