• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Motoz tires

I've been reading the Motoz website information... which is quite a good amount by comparison to other tire makers, and it seems that one of the more important bits of information are the dry/wet - hard/soft terrain usage recommendations.

Based on those values and the typical weather conditions/terrain in Western Washington, it seems that the X-Circuit I-H/T is the most suited... that's assuming you want to use them as DS tires and would like to get some life out of them, which I do.

The Enduro I/T seems like it would be great in dryer-mixed climates... like someplace that isn't Western Washington.

The Tracula tire sounds like a blast, but more for track/soft terrain use than DS use. (maybe that's why the call it the trac-ula? :p )

Do I have it about right, or am I way off the mark here Kelly?

Hopefully I'll have a set of the H/T's mounted next week and will report back as to their performance. My riding is about 50/50 with a short (10mile)commute to work 5 days a week. The weather is turning cold and wet here quickly so I'll be able to find out how they perform on the Ohio clay/shale/grease:thumbsup:

Big thanks to Kelly for getting them orderd for me yesterday!

They went out yesterday and you should have them soon. Thanks man.

Yep. I ordered the Tractionator Xcircuit which are touted as 50/50 hard/soft. The 24 hr race this weekend is a mix so this should be a good test. More hard pack than I usually ride so that will be interesting.

I want to try the Tracula I-S/T for the winter here but there are no (25% hard / 75% soft) but they did not bring any 18" models in, next shipment is not until Feb time frame and i asked them to bring some in as if they work we will use them.

Well, I'm interested to see how they work for Kelly at the 24 hr race. That being said, they would have to be much better than a trials tire for me to even consider it! Any of our buddies down under have any experience with them?

They might be just the thing for me. I live at the base of Rainier, so depending on where I want to go, anywhere from a 15 to a 35 minute ride on the road gets me to a nice trail network... that's mostly hardpack and rock with the occasional stream thrown in for good measure.

I've considered trials tires for the Sherco 510, especially the Pirelli MT43 rear as it might hold up better than the Michelin or Dunlop when I do have to ride the road.
I rode intermediate class SCTA trials in Calif. back in the day, so I know what you can do with trials tires on a trials bike, but haven't personally ridden an enduro bike with a set.
I tend to "back it in" on logging roads... and I've heard that trials tires don't work so well for my ex-flat tracker riding style.

If you don't mind me asking, what have been your experiences with trials tires?

As you know, a trials tire is all about traction. With that being said, if you like to run and gun with a lot of tire spin, obviously a trials tire wouldn't work for you! On the other hand, it sounds like you have actual trials experience and the MT 43 would work very well as it's probably the one of the most stable trials tire on FS roads, logging roads and streets. Trials tires are great in wet, slimy, rock and root infested, tight single track...not so good in deep mud...and ok in loose sandy situations. They last forever compared to a knobby. It can transform an unconfident beginner into a fast beginner!

What you've said pretty much echos the comments found in most other reviews and my personal experiances from a decade of trials competition.
I still hesitate because of my flat track, corner riding style... hard to change what works for you after 40 years. :p

I'll see if I can borrow a trials tire equipped enduro bike to toss into a few corners... see if I end up out the other side, or on my ass.

Thanks for taking the time to provide your input.

Creeper / David, we should all hook up for a rip one day and try them all out. I will have the Motoz today.

Got them installed. These are gnarly, I hope they work as good as they look. I have to run the the 24hr race where I'll be doing gobs of testing but I'll post pix Monday.

Good luck in the race. Take some before and after pics.

sure could have used them this past weekend, lotsa tight single track goo, gnarly hill climbs, wet/tall grass covered ruts and log crossings made for a big pucker factor with the TKC80's that were on the bike when I bought it.

Very impressed with them, pix coming this afternoon.

Looks like they are hooking up good here...

Just received mine today

I won't get a chance to use them for a couple of weeks, but I am hoping for some long life out of them. I got the desert H/T 130 wide for the DRZ and 140 wide for the Husky. I just have a couple of rides on a new Terraflex on the back of the Husky, so it will be a while until I get the Motoz mounted on it. I will get the DRZ mounted up this week, I have a longish dual sport ride in a couple of weeks with it.:) Ken

Looking forward to the write ups. Glad you guys are having initial positive experiences with the MotoZ--i sure did.
Very very curious how well the intermediate tires held up for Kelleys 24 hour race. Im gonna run MotoZ at next months baja 1000, but not sure to go without a planned tire change (one set of HT), or do the usual new tire every 300 miles. (2 sets of IT?) Or maybe one set of IT's will work?
Decisions, decisions.

Kelley, did you go 24 hours on one set of IT compound tires? hmmmm.

it is a team race, i was actually doing sweep and testing product. I did more miles than most racers at 130 miles. No wear showing at all but the track was not super demanding this way because a lot of it was grass track and silt / loam. There was some very rocky sections and about a half mile of gravel road which i hammered it on. I am going out of my way to hammer that tire to test real thrashing miles not babied miles.

it will be real interesting when i try them in my usual deep woods stuff.

nice grass track shot**************************************** any reports from the 24 hr (clubsite etc)???

overthebarsgang.com but not much info there. Lots of stuff int he NW section of TT. BTW i believe this is THE biggest 24hr. 100 teams of 5-6 makes 500-600 racers. It is a super cool event in it's 6 the year. near Halloween so people dress crazy. The pits are fun at night. Lots of very fast guys out there. All my pix are here (go a few pages in to get past all my crap)...

Scott, the owner of the track also has another track just down the road which is like a GP style thing with a natural grass track and stuff. VERY fun track that is open about every weekend for racing or practice....
