  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

X lite motor

Coming of cruisers and quads and a klx 250 I used for a spell please excuse my ignorance but could someone educate me on the x lite motor , my bike is a 2012 te 310 , does it have an x lite motor , nothing was ever mentioned when I bought it , I just ride fireroads and no racing but I am hearing these motors don t last long .

Yes it's an Xlite engine. If you don't race it professionally and do very regular maintenance you should be fine. There are some heavy duty racers on this forum and you are inside a bubble here so don't get too hung up on everything you read. There are many of these xlite bikes out there with very little problems but you won't ever hear about them. Enjoy the bike:cheers:

Thanks for educating

2300 race miles on my 2010 te250 x-lite, valve adjustment at 1700 miles, oil changed every 4-5 hours (you can extend that if not racing), no issues at all yet, touch wood, still pulls as strong as it ever did, best endure bike I've owned or ridden hence why I've not changed it, I'll probably ride it into the ground as the value of these 'obsolete' Husky's seems to be falling rapidly.

Awesome thanks !

Right at 100hrs on mine MY12 TE310, oil change every 4-7hrs, filter every other, synthetic fluids, still runs like a top. I pulled the valve cover off recently and the valves are still in spec. They have only been adjusted once before. I keep thinking I need a new one but this one runs/rides so sweet I am going to hang onto it.

One other thing, I don't buy cheap oil, I use Motul 300v fully synthetic, I'll never know if that helps, cheap oil may be just as good but I'm too scared to try! After running a Yam, Kawasaki, Husky and various road bikes on this oil with zero engine wear issues I'm not prepared to risk it.

Can we talk about who designed it, where it came from, where it's production started and where it may have moved to? I love this little motor, but know little about it's history. Any info would be much appreciated.

It's more of a viscosity issue over brand with this engine. I do like 300v, 5W40. Frequent low viscosity synthetic oil changes will make this engine last a very long time.

Here is your manufacture for the x-lite engine. They will continue to produce parts for this engine into the future. Engine direction and design by Wolfgang Brandstatter and Werner Kohluber.

Thanks for the manufacture info Tinken.

How would you guys translate hrs into miles in terms of oil change intervals?

Would 200 mile oil and filter changes work for those that no longer get too crazy off road, do not race, yet do include some 45 - 55 MPH jaunts on asphalt?

I think most people go with 5-6 hours, but its relative. If I take my bike out for a weekend, I drain it when I get home, even if I went less than 300 miles.

Interesting… I'd heard Husky hired a Japanese designer to design the X-Lite.

Can you remove that tube connected to the drain plug , or will it start leaking due to the hose flairing out ?

I've got 3 TC250s... Doing some long term testing on these xlites under varying conditions :) ... 1 even has EFI...Check back in about a yr and I should have a real clue on engine lasting.

I have changed every 500km oil and filter. No probs at all. until now 1800km 50/50 road/trails.

Changing every 500km is a must in my opinion: after that I notice the shifting is a bit more notchy.
The oil does many heat cycles as it is a very small capacity (900ml) and I believe this affects lifespan of the fluid significantly.

I have been using IPONE Katana10w50 up until now

Switching to Castrol Power Racing RS 10w50 because according to my research it is closest to manufacturers spec, readily available (Wallmart!) and lower price.

Manufacturers spec is: Castrol Power 1 10w50

Will inform if this choice seems to cause any wear issues.
