  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Whats the good , bad , and the ugly on '12 TXC 511

Great, very underrated bikes. What are you looking to use it for? Use the search function as there is more info on this site about these bikes than about anywhere. I love mine.

Pros:
Motor
looks
comfort
CTS
durability

Cons:
semi odd handling
parts availability may be somewhat of an issue
discontinued model

The only SLIGHT reservation I have is parts. I am optimistically hoping KTM realizes there is plenty of money to be made and gets the parts logistics sorted.

The bike flat out rips. Hooks up better than anything I have ever ridden and caries its weight better than any bike as well. The CTS is not some marketing gimic..it works.

With about an hours worth of tricks, you can run the bike 99% stock and be competitive in any A class event. One of the best aspects is having a "cool" bike. At every trail stop, guys are pawing it all over....

I will be using it as a motard . I want something more aggressive than my 630 .

Hummm. My uncorked TE511 is more aggressive than my 06 TE610 with pipe and SM kit. I have a few secret paved back roads I know about that are very SM race track like but for many miles. Some of it is very tight. Semi rough too as it has been patched many times. This is as close to real SM as I get (no SM racing ever) but in that stuff it feels great. Loves to wheelie out of corners, feels light and responsive. Short gear box but on the road just gear it up and go. Should be fun.

I have a 2012 TXC511. Mine has been on road for 5 miles of its life, but I have to think it would be a scream. It's def more lively than a 630. Can't give you any more feedback as everything else I have is related to its off road prowess.

The motor hits hard and pulls very strong I can tell you that. Geared short as MS mentioned.

Short gearing doesnt bother me . I can play with sprockets if needed . Thanks for all the feedback and links.

Awe inspiring engine and mechanical traction control. Motard is harder on the torque limiter, so Zipty breather/tank is recommended with higher levels of oil. Powercommander with our maps will make the bike come alive. The TXC511 with pcv is the fastest bike in the lineup. My 511 eats KTM 690's. :D

Thats a bold statement . I thought the 690 is mighty ?

The 690 is a great bike, 66hp and just over 300lbs. My 511 is 61hp and 247lbs, thinner, and nimble off road compared to that fat beast. I have yet to find one that can keep up with me across the open desert, but the day I do, I will retract my statement.

Fair enough , I am getting excited already .

Oil will be everywhere if you fill it to the manufacturers suggested amount. For years people were just putting less in it to solve the problem. Zip Ty made the kit and you can actually put over that amount now. It's also supposed to keep the oil circulating at a cooler temp. There is also a cheaper fix Zip Ty has also but the kit is better.

At the top of the four stroke forum is a sticky from oregonsage that will show link you to more then you want to know :)

What the heck did you do to get 61hp out of a 511? I've got an FMF and PCV and it dyno'ed at 46hp.

So this is a modded bike ? My 630 will run with a 550 SXV . It has a JD tuner , flow through pipes , and de-restricted air box . I am concerned the 511 will be slower .

My 511 is slower than the 550. My bike has FMF, TC airbox, PCV with race map.
Guy who owns scooter shop has one it is fast. I can outrun him in the dirt, cause he won't can't drive it
there. I bet zipty could make it faster. My 511 is a ripper off road, and on the curvy backroads here.

After many months on my 144 and 165 bikes I got my 511 out for some fun again yesterday. I added a Midwest Mountain Engineering clutch lever which worked wonders for controlling it in the slow speed stuff. Also set more sag on my Zipty suspension plus raised my forks some to lower the bike and make it turn quicker for the single track gnar it was about to encounter. Bike was fantastic. Suspension ruled and clutch lever transformed the bike. At first I was struggling to sort out how different the 511 is from my 125 based bikes (total opposites) but once I got the 511 sorted out again fell into a groove and stayed there all day. Manged to put it out front of a large group of KTM 2 and 4 strokes all day. This is a great bike. I'm keeping mine a LONG time. Already have for me. Love this bike. Also big thanks to Tinken for the info and help with this machine.
