  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Te511 catalytic converter removal

Husqvarna
A Class
So Today I removed the Catalytic converter from my bike. WoW!! what a great pain in the A**:banghead: . But well worth it. So much more bottom end and off idle response seems to be a little more snappy:thumbsup:. It should run cooler as well both the pipes and the engine:cool:. Cant wait to ride it. Next week in Mojave all week.

So here is what I did.
remove the muffler tail pipe assembly.

at the head pipe connection side drill out the rivets, then remove the pipe from the muffler.

you will see the "Cat" (it looks like thin corrugated sheet metal rolled back on its self, I will call this the "cat center"), and the full pen-welded all the way around. (the three stitch welds are not involved)

cut the weld on the head pipe side of weld all the way through.(you may need to fight:mad: to get the the "Cat center" out.)

I drilled a large hole in the center of it all with a Large UNI-Bit and four others around the center hole.

I then used a sawzall with a narrow metal cutting blade and proceeded to cut it from the center out to each hole.

I then used pliers and pulled out the rest of the "Cat center".

I then used a die grinder with a carbide rasp to clean up the rest of the small loose "Cat center" pieces.

Reassemble with Normal aluminum rivets.

Have fun!! :D Sorry no pictures, did think of posting this until after.

if you are having trouble send me your photos and I will be glad to help

Just curious, but is the cat made from platinum? Many automobile cats have it and why they get ripped off of pickups here in Cali all the time.

Platinum, palladium, rhodium, and other precious metals and rare earth elements of the compound catalyst

That stuff took a dent out of my 11" chop saw wheel ! I tried my saw-zaw but decided to chop it after about 5% threw.

I modded mine further by drilling a 1/2" hole in each of the two baffles at opposite locations so that you cannot see straight through to the next passage way. The sound increase was negligible but there was an increase in power from the mod.

yeah I went thru two die grinder wheels before I used a large uni-bit and just peeled it apart with pliers
