Those engines just plain look great. I know how much time you spent but is was worth it.
Talking to old vintage formula car owners at the Austin GP track say they keep there real old magnesium transmission cases new and preserved
by keeping air and moisture away from this metal. Darin these not only look great but will last a lifetime.
Did you put the KBS diamond clear on the 250 case ? What black did you use on the other ? Then clear on it?
Gary,
I use KBS rust seal in the crank webs. I bead blast, use their rust blast to clean oil out of surfaces, then use their Marine clean to remove any oils, etc..... The key to prevent bubbling is to use light coats. I sand between coats with 220 grit paper. I also use the Rust Seal on all bare areas of outer mag cases to seal of. I DA sand the cases to get chips scratches out of old. Sand small areas. If it gouge I fill in with JB marine weld and sand.
I use VHT Low Gloss on outer cases then heat cure. No clear. They look shiney cause I spray everything down with WD 40.
KBS has a new 2 part clear id like to try. Think it's called Xtreme.
The silver cases are DuPont base coat and DuPont urethane.
I'm thinking about trimming the 390 case on sprocket side to get rid of the flange that holds sprocket cover. Not sure if it will make case weak? But it would look like an 82 case when done. I just stick motor number on top of case around ignition. I may try a new coating on 390 cases in like a gold hew titanium color?
