• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Let's See your 'Tard!

Finally got it pretty much finished....LOVE this bike on the road!!! Wish it had about 6 more hp to the wheel but that's okay, lets find a way to save weight instead!

Seeing as people are posting other bikes. Here is my first sumo. Aprilia SXV 550. It was an EVIL BEAST that kept trying to kill and and eventually put me in the hospital twice. She got sold after that and I have never regretted it.

I bought it from my ktm, husky dealer. its just a kit that came with the flat plastic license plate holder and the nuts and bolts. I had to cut my tail and drill holes to make it fit.

Part number? Is it a universal kit or specific to a bike?

How sturdy is it? Currently I have my plate bolted directly to the plastic tail that protrudes from under the brake light. I find that anything heavier simply vibrates all to hell. There is just no support back there and the plastic is not rigid enough to stop the plate flopping around.

I dont have the part number...it came in a clear plastic baggy with all the nuts and botls, the top of the packaging had KTM on it and at the lower right of the plate holder had a KTM sticker which i removed of course when i installed it. Its very sturdy, i bolted it about a quarter inch down from the tail light so as high as possible. Also i used a grinder and simply cut off the tail after i removed the blinkers then used a file and cleaned it all up. So by cutting the tail and leaving about 3 to 4 inches its pretty thick what is left. No vibration at all, I havent installed blinkers yet but will go with the tear drop style and mout them directly to the white tail fender.

I'll find out once I get my hands on them, and the guys at ER finally get me my axle and caliper!

Parts/Work undertaken;
'13 SXV 450 50mm marzocchi forks; Ohlins TTX22 cartridges (FGMA1295) and springs shortened to SMR511 length, SKF seals, DLC coated lower tubes, Extreme Riders fixed offset fork bottoms (20mm offset vs 35mm for OE), 108mm Beringer 4 pot radial caliper.

Just waiting on the axle and caliper from Extreme riders as the axle had to be custom made and is taking for ever!

-15mm offset will be interesting too, instead of the usual -3 or 4mm you get with triple clamps!

I am quite amazed with the insane amount of effort you are putting into these bikes. I have spent my effort towards getting more power from the bike, and as it sits I think that is the number 1 handicap with these. Even with everything I have done/tuned etc. It gets pulled on by most other "real" supermoto bikes.

I hope these engines last as far as bottom/top end goes. Longevity would more than make up for the 5-8hp these bikes lack and the extra 15lbs. IF I get 15k hard street miles I would feel justified in my choice of bikes.

Your head will explode when I say I don't race it lol Not to mention if you can get around a corner faster your exit speed is higher.
