• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kush sprockets for the husky

Next time I replace the chain, I may pick up a 41T to try out. I don't want to get TOO far from my factory 15/38 gearing for highway RPMs.

I MAY be able to squeeze in a 41 with the current chain, but it would be tight.

Just a note for those that are not aware husky already has a cush clutch hub for the purpose of not shocking the drive train.

Not all do. A friend's SMR 510 has a solid clutch basket gear and no cush in the hub.

My 630 will bark the rear when I shift hard or clutch the front up, even with the clutch cush.

If it'll make my tire last a bit longer, it's worth it.

I'm thinking it's beneficial to the countershaft splines as well as the transmission. My countershaft is showing significant wear, and will be replaced at the 50k refreshing that I have planned. I don't see how the cush clutch hub has any effect on that - it's on the wrong end of the power flow (I'll happily be corrected though).

Should help some, shock loading makes it all the way back to the crank.

I should have spelled it out a little more, the 610 and 630 have the clutch cush hub.

The clutch cushion is better than nothing but doesn't come close to doing the job of a cushioned rear wheel hub. That is why the clutch hub spring washers fail so quickly.

So definitely no issues with these falling to pieces anymore? Looks like a worthwhile mod if they're longevity is vastly improved to the initial run.

Haven't heard of a newer gen one self destructing yet.

Saw one of those on a 610 a couple of weeks ago. I was impressed.
I assume that you're talking about mine. I was one of the guinie pigs for the second generation units. It has been put through its paces and held up great. Its really surprising how much difference they make. The bike is smoother overall and it takes a lot of the shock out of the system.

If you ran a 41t rear, would fitting a 16t front just about even things out? I am happy with the stock gearing and will do whatever it takes to make the bike last as long as possible.
