  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Just bought 2 new TE310R's--now what?

Dont feel bad, in 2007 I bought a 450exc. It didnt run when I got it home. Had to call JD and jet it to get it running. Damn sea level must be real hard to dial in, idiots at Palmetto.

Where in LI are you?

I'm in No NJ and have I-Beat if you need it.

Meantime, I'd just send the ECU to a sponsor on this board to get it reflashed.Town and country did mine.

Meantime, these bikes should run real good when you are done...if that 04 CR125 in your avatar still rips their sidecovers off, then something is not right.

Don't try to force them to run if they are not set up right....you will toast the engines....especially in that deep LI sand!

Score man, 2 new TE310's sounds fun.

If you find they pop and die on decel it helps to bump the warm idle speed up to 2,000 RPM. At least until until they're broken in and the ECU learns it's perimeters.
Magic button fires em right back up but it's annoying to ride a new bike that dies.

ok so I eliminated the ugly black rear fender thing and tossed the chain guard. The dealer is closed on sunday and monday so ill try to get the remap tomorrow. The bike has 20 easy around town street miles on it,seems way underpowered.Of course im comparing it to my old KTM 620. It can hardly pull a wheelie.I then noticed a tiny rear sprocket on the back. That will not do. Dug up some old CAGIVA sprockets from the back on the garage they look like they just may fit.
The second 310 (the control) is up to 12 miles and is a decent enough around town street ride in totally restricted stock tune, just seems slow and lean.
The big ride is saturday, sunday and monday off road in the Adrondacks. Fun,Fun,Fun.

East Rockaway----near Kennedy airport.Totally got flooded by Hurricane Sandy and lost a bunch of bikes and everything else. What exactly does I-beat do? I assume it reprograms the ecu...no?

the longer the break in on the 4T husky's the better, this advice coming from george at up-tite racing. ask zip-ty how many bikes he blew up before they gave the bikes a longer break in period. they need more then a 20 minute break in..

FWIW.

I have a 2013 TE310R and hated it at first, have the same experience as you, would not stay running, poor performance, pop/die on deceleration. The more I rode it the better the bike behaved. I did the same simple mods with no change to the map yet (pulled the smog, and capped the small intake) I also changed the rear sprocket from the stock 40T to a 50T, much better acceleration as expected.

I am now at @ 400KM (I still have not found out how to switch to Miles...)

On a recent ride in Hatfield McCoy trails, we did have an issue with starting after the bike was "washed". I got water in the cylinder and it would not start, nothing. We had to pull the plug, which is a serious PIA, no thought into trailside work for this bike. What I learned from this was to make sure that there is a good amount of grease to waterproof the electrical system (all wires, and plug).

On this trip I also learned not to trust the dealer to finish and torque bolts on assembly, as some of my case bolts were loose after a days ride in the rough terrain. After the mornings TLC the bike has never run better.

Long story short, be patient, the bike will get better.

I took the red intake restrictor out today to see how it would run. It is way faster, still not great ,but at least it wheelies. Popping on decel tells me its lean.Heading to the mountains tomorrow for a long weekend of light trail riding with the kids. It now has 23.....KMs on it.I didnt figure out how to change the speedo to mph yet.Anybody?

I used to live in Rockaway Park.

In Bergen county NY now.

The guy is right though...new 2013s have keihin FI so NG on the I-Beat.

Whats cruising speed with the 50 tooth? Was there enough room for it with the stock chain?

With a 50-tooth speed at 6,000 - 6,500 RPM is about 50-55 MPH. That said, these bikes hate constant RPM operation. If you go with a 50, you will need a longer chain. The stock chain has the tire up against the mud flap with a 40-tooth.

Yep,it was a KTM dealer in Virginia.Ok so I removed the octopuss and cat from 1.It runs better allready, has 4 miles so far.The other wouldnt run at all,so i looked at the airfilter and it had a mx style filter cage in it.(?) I put the restricted one back in it and it runs OK with 1 mile on it.
So I think im going to leave one restricted as a control and set up the other.
Whats that orange thing behind the backfire screen in the intake?should that be removed?

You brought home bikes without test riding them first? I know they are new, but still have to make sure everything is in order before taking delivery.

Thanks Mike... was a bad question on the chain... i had 2 thoughts goin when typing and messed it all up . Appreciate the mph answer. Looks like 45 rear to start and maybe down one on CS later. Still breakin her in. Hadn't had her opened up yet. Will see.... Like her so far and appreciate this site...

Go big on the rear sprocket is my advice. I went with a 49 and wish I would have got the 50.

Because chain wear thru guide? What'll they rev to Mike? Will i be able to Jump trails @ 60 to 65 with a 50? I glanced at the TXC 310 on the showroom floor when i picked mine up and saw a 50 on it, so was thinking I'd start their but your post says high r's @ 60mph. I love grunt and not a fan of flameouts. Will most likely start with the 50... Will see once i get her loosened up and barkin.

I ran a 50T last year and felt it was too low on the highway @ 50-55. I switched to a 45T this year and it cruises nicely at 50-55 but it is too high in 1st on really technical single track type trails. I am going to order a 47t and see how it goes.
