    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

I just bought a JD fuel tuner for my 2011 TE630. I'm very happy with the pre-set options JD put in the device. I am a bit of a perfectionists so I couldn’t leave well enough alone

. After speaking with James from JD at length he encouraged me to test different settings to see what I liked. I'm curious if anyone has had time to play around with the settings and if so share their results. There are so many possible combinations to try its very time consuming. Also James said that his dyno testing was done on a stock bike with the "power up kit" only. That means a stock air box and exhaust system. The stock air box with snorkel seems restrictive but the size of filter and air box volume is plenty large.

I have added twin Leo Vince X3 Enduro slip-ons and drilled four 3/4'' holes in the air box. I added fuel from the preset RED (3) to a richer (4) setting. It seems better but I want to test further. Other than the fact that I just want to ride!

I have a SM 630 with a pipe and modded airbox, I used the settings JD gave me and it was much better. First I started to play with the red setting (main jet) it was 3 so I went to 4. Very little change so I went to 5 then 6 and that's where the magic happened. Since I ride it like a sportbike it loves the bigger main and it pulls hard on top, you can really feel it come in around 7000 rpm. Each full number adds 5% fuel in that mode so my increase was 15%. You wouldn't need that on a dirt bike beacause you can never hold the throttle wide open as long as you can on the street. I also changed the green from 3 to 4 (raise needle) and that cleared up a small hesitation off idle. I love the adjustability I have now, it's so easy and I can adjust it while I'm on a ride. husky666, thanks for your input. My bike has twin Leo slip ons and an opened up air box. Since I stared this post I've had some time to experiment. I also added fuel in the mid (yellow) and red (high). You are correct that the engine now comes alive from 7,000 to the 8,300 red line. What a terrific device JD has created. Two thumbs up!!
 
My bike's setup, 2011 TE 630: Smog canister removed, power up kit, twin Leo Vince Enduro slip-ons, JD Jetting FI tuner, 9 x 3/4" holes drilled in the air box and oem snorkel removed. I used an Innovate Motorsports DB gauge (along with seat time) to achieve what I feel is the best air fuel ratio setting possible. I also have a 14 tooth front sprocket and Pirelli MT-21's front and rear. My bike will currently reach a top speed of an indicated 101mph on the speedometer. BTW, it would not go over 90 mph with stock tires, twin Leo's and the power up kit. First and second gear wheelies are easy, third gear requires some effort but once up I can switch to fourth while going :).

The bottom line with the Husky 630's is they are completely choked from the factory. It has been discussed at length here on this forum that the 630 engine has such great potential. Give her more air, fuel and exhaust flow...and believe me, the bike is transformed. Comparing a bone stock 630 to how my bike is set up now is like riding two different bikes. Power wise to me, it's like driving a Suzuki DRZ400S (I had one and liked it) and then getting on a KTM530 EXC (friend has one and its awesome). Driving a stock bike with the crazy air box maze and without a power up kit is not only disappointing but dangerous...for the bike and rider. Bolt on an exhaust, open up the air box and add a JD tuner. You will have a different bike.

My final JD settings:

Green- 3
Yellow- 7
Red- 7
Green/ Blue- 1
Yellow/ Blue- 2
Red/ Blue- 6
 
Been playing with my new JD tuner and it wasn't the night and day change I had been expecting.

The bike def has more midrange power. It will now loft the front tire in first from power alone. However the effect on the top end hasn't been so impressive. The motor seems to rev a bit more freely but there still seems to be little power up top.

My settings are a bit closer to stock at this point. I have tried going significantly richer and it didn't seem to make much difference.

The bike def runs cooler which is a major improvement at this point.

Youre running a 511? I know that Kelly reported on dyno runs at JD Jetting which indicate that there is quite a bit of top end taper off due to restriction.... Would be interesting to see if adding some airbox inflow would help... since mine is dirt only this is of little consequence to me, but I bet the TE/SM guys would love some more top end.

Run the red zone way up to like 7 or so and see if it revs out further. Mine gained a TON on top (2011 TE511) although this does not do a lot for me as i normally short shift and do not bounce off the rev limiter so most my power use is below this range on this bike.

What bike do you have? Do you have a stock exhaust? Air box opened up? Just adding fuel is only part of the equation.
 
I am running a 511 SMR with the stock pipe. I did drill a pair of 1.5" holes in the front of the airbox cover to increase flow into the airbox.

I tried the Red Zone set at both 4 and 7 and it actually felt a bit better set at 4 but there is really not much difference between the two settings.

One thing I forgot to ask. I have the Race Map II plug installed which IIRC richens things up across the board? Wonder if it might work better with the race map plug removed and the JD Tuner set richer?

There are three parts to consider for increased engine power. More air, fuel and exhaust flow. There will come a point where you cannot add any more because the engine will be maxed out and no longer gain power. If you want try a slip on muffler or gutting your stock can. The TE's stock muffler has a restrictive catalytic converter. I'm sure some TE511 owners will chime in and help.
 
The airflow on the 630 is restricted by the air box lid snorkel. The only air that can get in is from the snorkel opening which is behind the plastic fairing (this is easy to see with the oval black dirt smudge on the foam filter). So the only way to get more air in seems to be by cutting a hole in the air box lid. Have just received the EHS filter and am fitting that together with a fine wire mesh cover for the gauze filter. Will then try increasing fuel with the JD box.
 
Once winter hits I will have a look inside the OEM muffler. Not gonna do that right now cause it requires drilling out all the rivets holding the can together.

The EHS should work well installed just in front of the throttle body intake (as pictured a few posts up.) I know you expressed concern with water and or snow ingestion in the air box. The water resistant membrane on the EHS should do the trick. When you do have it installed turn your JD tuner up to 7 in mid, (yellow) and high, (red.) The engine will perform a lot better. Each number after 3 with your JD tuner is a 5% increase in fuel. So that's a 20% increase in the mid and high fuel range. My bike runs like a champ with those settings and yours should too.
James from JD Jetting personally helped me along with tuning my TE630, In fact my drilled air box is pictured on his web site.

You have the twin Arrows and ecu setup so I am very interested in your performance gains. Keep us posted!!
 
Will do! That was a VERY fast delivery all the way from the U.S. of A! (But am now waiting for delivery of bling black anodized pan head bolts from the UK for the frame)

PS

Took the airbox lid off last night and saw that where the air intake snorkel fed air into the airbox there´s a black smudge of dirt on the air filter showing how the snorkel severely restricts air intake. Cutting the aperture for the EHS frame will definitely provide a relevant increase in the air intake.
 
Anyone know if it is better to run the original map or the "Race Map" in a 511 when using the JD tuner? Right now I have the race map plug installed.
 
Have now installed the EHS frame and put in a fine wire mesh over the membrane for added protection. (used the bolts supplied in the package as I didn´t want to wait for the bling dome head black anodised bolts ordered in the UK). All I´ve got to do now is understand the complex instructions on how to come to terms with the row of blinking LEDs to set the added fuel flow. Started last night and had to give up so as not to frighten the neighbours.

The airbox cover doesn´t look too bad. Think I should have got the frame in black (only saw it in the list after ordering). Don´t need a dyno to tell me that the power has increased dramatically over the whole rev range.
