  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

How it could take me sooo long to find husqvarna, stupid me...

G'Day all, I just got a 2012smr 511 it's black too so I reckon it's tough. I've had it a week, done just under 900 mm. I hooked up with cafe husky weeks before though and for everyone that's already helped me by reading the posts, I say a big thank you, from running in on mineral oils, to oily air boxes and even adjusting my gear lever ( which I found a very enjoyable task ), I love everything about this bike.. I've never had a road bike, my last trail bike was over 20 years ago an it was an Ag bike, that's right but I got all d right attributes to own this bike. It's hard to stay off it. I never believed anything could b as much fun. I am enjoying tweaking this bike and will always want to learn more about it and slowly get better doing it ultimately getting the best from this machine, things in the future I wanna b able to do is the valve check an so forth but at the moment I've loved doing all the oil changes to run it in and until I understand the bike, it's chips or electronics then I'll just continue playing around without, I might even b able to give some hard learnt advice ( doubtful though ), last night I shortened the front indicators, they look ok, they don't stick out as much.
I'm trying this first thread because I'm searching for advice.
I'm taking the majority of peoples advice and fitting a pipe next week so I just wanna make sure what I'm getting is the best available for this bike. Of course it's an Akropovic hopefully full titanium, but here's my dilemma, I'm under the impression that the one specifically built for this model is not actually the best one for performance, or to fit. I'm posting this because I know no better but I'm under the impression the te510 has a power up pipe or similar, some I'm asking one of you genius out there who has all the knowledge I need to know an with luck can even send me the product codes cause at the moment Im a wooduck that's probably going to buy it without any knowledge but with all the enthusiasm to hear what this bike really should sound like. Also if possible, what my instrument panel should say once it's mapped to the pipe, now for some reason it says map2..I did tell them to remove the LAMS restrictor??? Again I don't know the specifics when I bought it but was only aware they disconnected a wire under my seat, see I'm not even too sure it's running 100% output now..thanks again for cafe husky.. Jeez these bikes are soo much fun..

Welcome!

It seems you want input on what pipe to put on the bike, so I will move this over to 4st where your question will get the proper attention it deserves. :)

Awesome! Good to see youre stoked on a new 511! They are fun and a different breed. Enjoy it. Its a chick magnet too haha!

Welcome mate, what part of Australia are you in? It should say "Race Map II" on the speedo and have the supplied akro pipe fitted if it has been derestricted.

Hi, I'm in Melbourne, I thought that " map ll " was the right display with the restrictor off. Hey l still have the stock pipe " lamfranco?? ". I've ordered my pipe from same place l bought the bike,I've been told it will take more than a week as it's being shipped from Italy, l know it seems unreasonable to wait, but what can I do, haha. Are you saying the Akro pipe needs de-restricting too??..so if your advice is for them to fit it, my plan all along, will my display again a different map number. Can you briefly explain the process of mapping, is it electronic, is it able to adjustable by me or do I need to buy diagnosis equipment if so what.. Cheers mate I appreciate yr welcome..Stuie

I'd imagine an FMF is better than the Akra you guys get with the bikes. As far as mapping, you can't do it. Map 2 which you already have is good but apparently map 3 is the best. It seems only a few dealers have it. Zip-Ty racing can upload it but on some ECU's they can't. It's really odd but some bikes just won't take it. Another option is a power commander which bypasses the ECU and you can put in your own maps. You can download ready made maps if you buy a power commander. Zip-Ty has them up for download if you decide to go that route. As always, it's about how much you are willing to pay lol

Sorry, I thought the SMR cam with a Akro from new like the TE and TCs

Thanks forthe advice. checked out zip ty, will look into it more. Also when the pipe is fitted I will query "map 3", but they were struggling to even tell me about the code 541e, which here I found out its my model ofmy bike.$$$ I see this bike will constantly cost me but l think oh well its all for my well being and fun is worth it. Thanks again if I have any quieres in the future I will ask,,

I gotta ask, if the pipe doesnt need re mapping when l have it fitted, or lets say they cant give me map 3, then why shouldnt l fit it myself, what other things will they do or check that l possible couldnt.?

Sorry I don't think I get what you mean. If it feels good with an exhaust then just ride it. People have really like the gains with map 3 but if you can't get it then there isn't much you can do. The only way you could manipulate the maps yourself is with a Power Commander. Zip-Ty has free maps available for download if you get a Power Commander. The only way to really build a good custom map is with a Dyno which is expensive. Downloading their maps where they have already spent the time and money developing is the best route. If you love the way the bike runs and are content then by all means throw the exhaust on and just ride.

I love everything about this bike.. Jeez these bikes are soo much fun..

I hear ya loud and clear ... I've got 3 different Husqvarna-brand dirt bike models ... Each time I ride a different one, it feels like the best one till I ride a different model ...Then it is the best one ...

Ride safe and more seat time is where it is at ... More seat time, more skills ...More skills, the more riders that will be eating dust ...

Hey Stuie,

Good to see another SMR rider in Melbourne. Which dealer did you get your SMR from? Regarding the MAP 3 im currently waiting on the distributor for huskies in Aus to get back to me to see if any dealers in Melbourne have the new MAP 3 (will keep you posted). Either way when you get your exhaust you want to make sure it is showing RACE MAP 2 on your display. If you dont have RACE MAP 2 your not going to get the most out of your new exhaust. Also recommend the TC air box. With the exhaust if they have MAP 3 available I would get them to install the exhaust and do the MAP 3 upgrade at the same time. If they don't have MAP 3 install the exhaust yourself and you feel you can manage it save some $$$ for some other goodies.

Also Stuie, I recommend you lock your bike up well in 1 year my bike has had 3 attempts of it being stolen in Melbourne. All have failed but each time they have done damage. Get the biggest chain and lock and also a really good disc brake lock.

Cheers mate, yr advice is spot on and I am loving everything when I'm riding this bike, the Akro will b fitted asap and I know I'll b wrapped with it..I figure there is much to learn about this bike and I'm the kind of bloke that believes if I know how-to and learn about why and how, then I'll not only get more from the bike but ultimately ride it better...
I will talk with the store bout map 3, if I can't get it I will still b satisfied just searching for answers as to why some bikes accept the map and some don't. I can live without it. I like the learning and the tinkring around with it but synod and big money would be silly for someone with my limited skills but it won't stop me from finding out more.. It's hard for me to stay off it, I've moved it and my workshop to my bedroom,, lol true.. Hey thanks again

Cheers mate, thanks for yr post.. At the moment I can't keep off it, nightly I've been practicing at a huge car park, it's safe and I can try what I want to there..I'll never b a stoner on it but jez I feel like him when I come out of a bend, seatime, if I could sleep on it I would.. Cheers bud

So true u r.. One attempt already to b stolen, I put it to a dummy pole, 2 locks, came out not two minutes kater and 2 guys were walking round it, they got in a car and sat away from it, a few minutes later after watching them use cell phones.. 2 harleys came thru to it, I sh** myself and took it straight home, I passed the car and waved to them with only one of my fingers and they followed me, being a motored means I could find a faster route through a valley. The day before I lost my very expensive BadBoy cannondale, it was lockedxwith a 15 mm steel core cable, I locked it close to d front door, this is in the CBS mind you, I was in d store for exactly 6 minutes, after checkin cc footage, they followed me, it took them 42seconds to wheel my baby away... Imagine how I am now, I don't think there's a lock or chain big enough to give me peace of mind or really any type of security as I've found if they want it they will take it.. I'm going to fit a locator to it, for now it sleeps with me and 3 locks just for warmth..cheers for all your advice mate, bought from moto gc.. Let me know how the distributer goes with Husky ok.. Cheers again , mayb one day I'll pass u on d streets..

I was reading once where a thief was giving away his tricks and one was that he liked seeing a chain that needs cutting laying on the ground because they can get good leverage from the ground with his cutters ... So maybe take a little time and ~hide that chain so cutting it is a issue for them ... ( I keep my bikes in my house ...I am a scardee cat) ...

Bloody Melbourne!! Its stories like this that makes me wish we were more laid back with our gun policies lol. With the tracker I was looking into it however a few issues. 1. Not many places to put it that can be hidden on the bike 2. these days they are using GPS jammers when pinching the bikes and they take it and look over it rip it out the tracker so you no idea where its gone. The only benefit is insurance will be cheaper. Also maybe data dots could be a good idea???

Will let you know about the MAP 3.

Also how is your dealer Moto GC? I got mine from A1 motorcycles and have had nothing but trouble with them and looking for a new one for servicing and warranty work.

I think it's just a matter of it NEVER leaving my sight, early morning rides when insomnia keeps me up or l just can't stop thinking about going for a ride..I'm a tradie, I got so many different types of cutters and l use them on many materials just because of practicality I've never cut into my own locks to test them but after losing my bike in the time I did then unless it's vaulted in a safe with a guard, they'll take it, l like police and insurance, see I'm doing a lot of worrying now and if anything ever goes wrong then l can give it to them and stop my worrying, for now when I'm on it can't possible be taken from me, I'm like a flash going past, lol..lifes toooo short for worry, take what precautions possible an ride-on.. Cheers bud have good one..
