  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Alternative Db Killer that works for '13/'14 TE250R/310Rs

No rocket science here, but I just cobbled together a Db killer for my MY2013 TE 310R that works really well at quieting the bike.

I ordered a Db killer for a MY'13 (it's different than the ones for the black headed bikes) and all you get is a hollow pipe roughly 5"" long that replaces your spark arrestor. No perforations. Just a hollow tube with a curve in it to fit the later turned-down mufflers. Does little to quiet the bike.

The DB killer for the 2009-2012 models is the real deal. It is about 8 " long and is engineered to truly reduce the exhaust noise. You can see one on Rick Ramsey's te310 site. Problem is, it doesn't fit the '13/'14 bikes as they have exhausts that have a turn-down curve in them over the last few inches of the muffler. The 2012 on back don't. They have a perfectly straight through path for the exhaust.

Sooo, I just took the '13 Db killer and cut off the entire straight portion of hollow pipe (about 4 inches) leaving just the curved part. I then butt welded (it's stainless steel so you either tig or braze it) this to the rearward end of the entire 2009-2012 DB killer. I now have a real Db killer that fits in my turned-down exhaust and purrs like a kitten. All I need to figure now is a way to add a spark arrestor to it but that shouldn't be difficult. I may do it the way Rick Ramsey does in his 310 story...

Don't suppose you have any pics to go along with this neat hint?

Sorry, I don't know how to post pictures. I'm no spring chicken and somehow or another I never touched a computer 'til a few years ago. I am just barely able to post things on this message board. I have a flip phone... I hoped my writing was descriptive enough. Maybe my son can help me come up with a picture.
