  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

530 big bore kit installed!

The RR intake cam is its own design I'm pretty sure. The lobes look more aggressive and the timing gear is tig welded on..

The TC cam is part of the upgrade for a TE or SMR, but the RR is another step above the TC cam..

Isn't there a power up kit of some sorts that includes an RR cam? I thought I saw one for TC to RR, but I can't remember what that entailed..

I would have thought the TC and SMR cam would be the same. IN otherwords in terms of increasingly aggressive lift and timing:
TE < SMR=TC < RR

It's pretty lame if Husky calls it an SM"R" and yet it is detuned from the TC engine!
 
the TE and SMR use the same engine except for the crank shaft counter balancer.
hence why the 08-10 TE and SMR use the same fueling systems, same frames, same ECU and ignition setups, etc.
(if it were the same as a TC it wouldnt be green sticker capable or come with a plate)

only difference is the forks, wheels and brakes really.

You may have something there..? All I know is the RR cam is a whole 'nother cam

I thought TE and SMR had counter balancer?? maybe thats just the 04-07? Which one has it on the newer bikes?

Swingarm is already shortened on the 08+ SMR's, I think the SMRR uses the same swingarm..

I would highly recommend the 530 kit to anyone considering it, smr or smrr, its still a worth while upgrade.

There has been a few comments about revving the 530, my dyno graph shows that its maximum power was gained at 8k, it held its power for a while and then dropped off then onwards.

With the 530, you don't have to rev them too much like the 450, I've a shift light wired in at 7500rpm so by the time I react to the light its just clipped the 8k rpm, also run a quickshifter so the revs hardly drop when changing, it hauls a$$ !!

Be careful with what cam you pick. I had a pretty detailed conversation with Paul from GP and there is a "power up" cam for the off road bikes and then there is the actual SMRR cam thats in the 450 and 530rr's. The off road cam is not designed to let the bike have the same top end as the RR cam, for obvious reasons.

Either way, you have to use the HD springs with the cam.

I have the RR cam in my 08 and with just some basic iBeat tuning there was a big diff. And when looking at the head while it was off you could see while the factory ports look clean, there is room for improvement.

So what springs did you use with your cam? I'm building a 530 as well. Have SM RR cam and a set of RD valve springs as per the recommendation of Jeff at Hall's cycle..
 
It's been a while so bear with me.

I have the smrr "hd" springs and retainers. I would get the part number number from the cam and run it across Paul. Seems there is a power up cam for the te,tc, txc bikes that the gncc guys use for offroad and then there is the actual rr cam. Not saying Jeff is wrong but by husky description they all say "power up cam" but it may not be the one you want. Make sense?
 
The one I have is an RR cam. Not one from a power up kit. I was more curious about what he had to say about the powerup cam. Cuz I was under the impression it was just a TC cam meant to power up a TE or SMR..?
 
No from what he made it sound like there is a dedicated power up cam for the off road bikes that can be used in any bike with improvements to performance. Obviously the TE's would see the biggest since its the most tamed down.
 
Oh I see. Wonder how much it is..? So that makes two options for cam upgrades for people. Do you know retail costs on both cams?

How did you wire the shift light in? Just a single lead wrapped around plug wire? I've never used one before..

I've looked into this but I don't think its going to work like that.

The 450 has a 97m Bore and 60.7 Stroke
The 510 has a 97m Bore and 67.8 Stroke
The 530 has a 100m Bore and 67.8 Stroke

so milling the top off a 510 cylinder to the height of a 450 will give you 450cc right as they share the same Bore, just the stroke is where you get the bigger cc's.

Could you use a 530 cylinder though? Mill the 67.8 cylinder down to 60.7 and keep the bore at 100m? not sure what cc's that would give you or if it would work ?? anyone know ?

Cylinder studs, camchain, and 510 rod on order.
What / where do you find the RR cam? p/n?

This would be the best way to go about it. The only thing you have off is the amount needed to be milled off. The difference in stroke is 7.1mm or .280in. but only half of that amount (3.55mm or .140in) will be on the up stroke where the excess cylinder material is to he milled off. The other half is on the down stroke where the piston is at Bottom Dead Center. BDC of the 510 is 3.55mm or .140in lower than the BDC of a 450.
So only mill off 3.55mm or .140 inches

You will need a whole 510 crank if you plan on building a 530. The crank is where the difference in stroke is. The amount offset of the con-rod pin is what determines your stroke length. The offset of the pin on the 510 crank is 3.55mm further out from ttr center than the 450. If you're only doing a 480 (450 with the 100mm big bore kit milled down) then there's no need for a 510 rod.

The RR cam (used in the 450 and 530 RR's) is available to order through any dealer. Though only a dealer knowledgable of the RR will know what to look for. If you go to a dealer not familiar with the RR, you'll need to have the part number handy. WWW.Husqvarnaoutlet.com has a parts fiche for the 08 RR. The RR cam needs to be used with heavy duty valve springs like the ones in the RR or ones available from R/D designs.



And someone correct me if I'm wrong but, i thought the connecting rod is the same between 450 and 510..?
