• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

$350 barn find

Pile of parts on the way, hope to ride it before the snow flies.

Cleaning the frame and all the paint is original and really nice still.
The bike does not have many rides on it, but been in a few hard races perhaps.
Sat a long time, bearings in the brake pedal are stuck/seized lol

Both bearings were stuck, maybe he never used the brakes as they are like new still lol
Got a sweet tight drum on it, many are worn out from hard shoes you get lately.
Had the clutch apart, the pads on the discs have not made full contact yet. (brand new still)
repack on the swing arm bearings and gave it all a good cleaning, looks like new too.

Nice to see its still there, as in they got carried away with other cheap parts. The pivot bolt is just a bolt for the swing arm.
Rear axle seems off in quality i will be useing the good stuff where i can on this adopted 1.

thats sad to hear they dumbed a few things down..maybe because it was the swedes bike? the 91 2 strokes had a gun drilled swinger bolt with a zerk at each end, plus 2 zerks for the linkage. my 95 has 2 zerks for the linkage, and one for each swinger pivot.

the 91 also had wp stuff...the shock will sell on ebay for enough to buy an ohlins overhaul kit

I heard the kicker shaft will bend so i wont use that.
Its so like a knock off of the real deal.
I am tempted to do a better exhaust with 1 muffler and a nice merge in front of it for 2 pipes.
Who cares about factory correct on this one, im not set on it

that sucks, i would have had higher hopes for it, going byt the two stroke bikes, they had pretty much all good quality components. must be something about running out of the original swede parts/coming up with replacement type stuff. i have also heard about the kicker shaft issues.

Are you talking about kick start shaft issues ? I haven't heard of any and yes I have 2 510s and rode husky 4 strokes for a very long time.

One reason for less quality parts, may be that the Italians had run out of Swede parts by 89, and were transistioning to their designs.. Which take time. Actually the 510 four stroke disappeared for awhile after '89 - 90, didn't it?
