• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 Sherco 2T & 4T 300's... quick test ride

When it comes to KTM's starters, I agree with fletch. I've seen more KTM starters not work then ones that actually start the bike. I find it comical when a KTM rider hits the e-start and it sounds like a cross between a coffee grinder and a New Years Eve party noise maker for about 15 seconds and then grinds slowerquote]

Is the one on the 200 included in this generalization?

My question is the starter like on most automotive and heavy equipment where there is a gear that jumps out and engages a much larger gear, or does it involve one way clutch/sprag?

What do modern street bikes have, I have one and don't know off hand but the Norton 1975 model used the one way clutch and it lasted about 25,000 mi.

Here's a closer look at the Starter.

Also, the stator puts out 220 watts. It leaves the orange bike for dead with a huge charging system and robust starter.

All the efi bikes I'm aware of so far have a capacitor for run starting purposes. They can still be started with a push.
Yes, I could work on my fitness so I don't feel snagged after kicking my 450 all day out in the bush. But after owning two e-start bikes over the last 8 years & never being let down by either I'm pretty comfortable with it.
I'll smile as we stall side by side up some rutted, snotty hill where you must hold the bike on both brakes and push my button , then disappear up the hill.
OK I get it. But in truth the only time a modern two stroke with proper flywheel weight stalls is if your tired! I understand the need for estart for fourstrokes or someone with a bad leg or knee but I rarely stall and after we both crash a few times while your picking up your ten pound heavier bike Ill lay a path of roost while I pass ya!!! All in fun......my mind won't let me be 50! Lol. But I get it. I'm just not ready for that button...

I really cant say if any were on a 200. One of my friends has a 2011 300 and the starter hasn't worked since he got it, another has a brand new 300 and the starter works on it so far. All the other ones were at riding areas and I'd be parked next to them so I only know that they would do the grind and end up cussing while they kick started the bike. ( this was 3-4 different people I didn't know over the last 2-3 years)

KTM = Kick Till Monday!!
I must be stupid I thought it meant Kant take much.....all in fun....my reports from halls seem to rate the Austrian machine durability wise as good as the Italian version with the Austrian version four stroke engine stays cleaner as far as small oil leaks......that being said if its orange its in my red blood to run it over........all in fun..

In all fairness ktm changed something and supposedley from 2014 up they work better. Not to mention they had estart 2 strokes before beta and sherco were a thought in anyones minds. It still seems like a crapshoot, i have never had starter issues on my xlite but like hell if there aren't hundreds of pages on here about it lol. Basically, it's much easier to improve a current design then it is to be the original. This is a Husqvarna site and I still love mine so I'll play nice :) i don't want karma to get me if I ever decide to get an Austrian Husky lol

Oh and as far as small bores the rumor is a 150-200 class 2 stroke. Seems Sherco has been developing it but its a year or two away

Yes, all in fun. My e-start comments were aimed at four strokes. I would rather walk than have a 2 dinger. . Everyone is different and why there are so many bikes to choose from.
I refuse to be 47 too, but I do like the button on my bike. It means I can outlast the 2 stroke riders physically until they putt to a stop out of fuel. :)

Buddies nearly brand new 2015 KTM 250 XC started all day with the button no issues. It was 30 degrees at the staging area. Fired right up. That said about 70% of the KTM guys I ride with swear at there e-starts for not working. I'm on my 3rd e-start only bike, never had an issue. My TE511 is hard to bump start but will. My AJP PR5 will bump start easier than a 125 (EFI, e-start only, 250cc).

Love the Betas I have rode. Would love to try a Sherco and bet I would like them a lot too.

I certainly under stand the thoughts on electric start and like em. But a dodge ram power wagon comes with a manual transferase for a reason (no electronic gizmo to rely on!!) If the bike had both then at least you would have the option to remove the ten pounds of estart stuff or the 2 pound kick start . I like the looks of the bike!! As I have got older I like light weight so long as durability is not compromised. But I'm old school never will I have and auto clutch bike either. The clutch is my best friend and allows me to exit corners prevent stalling etc.... Yea if this new Husqvarna don't work which I feel it will be fine.....there is a new Tm importer and no estart option on the two strokes... But from a financial standpoint with all the bling and suspension etc. .I'm in at 9300 or so!!! I hope it works ! But yep ride that Sherco it is cool....
I looked into being a tm dealer.... no bikes in us for 2015

I'm not sure on the Tm thing. I read somewhere they have a new us importer (I'm very glad but won't discuss why) but I thought all 2015 models were coming stateside. Any one know the truth? Because they are small and not out to set the world on fire has hurt them. Beta got the Magizine on it's side with supporting a rider and has done everything KTM did just in smaller doses. The magizine article that put the gassers weight and saying that gassers own engine ran better in the christini because of the air box hurt gasser sales. Tm only produces app 200 units per year i am told and is happy with it. They make their own hubs even! Its awesome if you get on utube you can watch some footage of them in action at their factory. Very cool. Mine had way less quirks then any of my gassers. Quality control seems good and on a serious note I'm a fairly fast guy and that chassis felt every bit as good as and xlite chassis. With a revalve and lighter clutch pull.wow a hec of a bike...
