  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 FE 501 - What is it?

Is it a Husaberg? It definitely isn't the Kymco engine anymore right? Will it be any good?

Read the reviews of the KTM 500exc. I'm sure it's an awesome bike. KTM bashing aside, they build great bikes.

Oh I see. It's a 500 XC-W with different plastics and colors and some H's on it. Is it going to be $10,000+? If so, I'm sure glad I got my Husky when I did. It's unfortunate that KTM is buying all the competition. I'm sure they make great bikes, but that's a lot of green for a dirt bike.

So far it seems they'll be more expensive then the KTM's. Yeah I'd hang onto the 511 for a while :)

So Im swapping a guy my IMS tank for his grey stock tank for the WR. Next thing will be white shrouds and then late winter I'll be ordering up new graphics for the race season. White, blue, and yellow :D
Im thinking about doing the same with the TE since I can get the large side panels in white. Hmmm...a white blue and yellow TE449 supermoto...

Woops.. sorry for the thread hijack..

Honestly the only new one coming out that I'd be interested in is the TE300. That's because i watch to many graham Jarvis videos :). I really think I'd go with a beta300 though. As far as 4 strokes I'd get a leftover husky and save a ton. For the price I'd be looking at a tc449 and cr144 :)

Yep. Both fantastic bikes.

- BTW road a ton of new huslys this weekend at the gathering and spent a bunch of time on Russ' TXC449. That bike rocks. I cant see the KTM being $3000 better, no way no how. If fact i have ridden them and prefer the husky.

hmmm...no street legal Husky eh? better keep my baby in shape because I love throwing open the garage door and riding to and from trails.....

I get caught up with the latest and greatest hype all the time but the prices scare the hell out of me. I paid 8500 new for my 03 cbr600rr and 06 GSXR600. That's a lot more for the money lol. The price of everything has gone up though, I gotta get used to it lol

I test rode the FE501 and loved it. It almost has as much horsepower stock as my race wr511. It has a pretty wide ratio transmission too. Strong bottom end and smooth power to 10k. Not a snappy motor like the Kymco, more like an XR650.

The KTM 500EXC I rode was like a strong KTM 350. And I agree it was surprisingly docile and Ez to use and not a brute / handful. I think I would rather have the 500 over the 350 and I'm far from a power junkie and choose to ride a 165.

The 500EXC has a completely different engine and you guessed it right, it shares the same hp output as the 350, with added low end.

Good to know.

Is the 501 more similar to the 450SX because i rode one of those and it made  power but was a handful and I'm not man enough for it. Felt hero for about 5 minutes in the saddle then felt beat up.

The FE501 is about 5hp more than the 450SX, a straight up rocket ship. I loved the one I rode, and it had Akropovic exhaust on it. Not quite as fast as my WR511, but seriously close and I could ride it all day, very comfortable.
