  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 FE 501 - What is it?

How is it compared to the old 510 ?
I think i read about it somwhere and they said it have a single overhead cam, how is that a possible choise one that engine ? It has a six speed gearbox and that's great. Is seems like a great bike. Possible my next bike ? I wonder if that a better option that the new KTM. I have to say. After wondering to buy a 530 exc and a 510 smr and trying them both am in love with the husky. Can't wait to reading about people experience about this new huskys in the time to come :)

We own both the Husaberg 501 and the Husqvarna FE501 now. Without a doubt, the new Husqvarna FE501 is one of the most pleasurable bikes we have ridden. It's a fun, light and powerful dual sport bike. The KTM 500exc is similar, but has ten less hp due to emissions and pds suspension. The Husky 501 has ten power settings under the seat, but could be moved to the handlebars.

Revival. Rode one yesterday and loved it. Now that this bike has been around for 6 months or so, do we know more about it? Any quirks that we need to know about? Are parts and accessories plentiful? Is it a big difference from a 500 XC W? Is no kick start lever a big Deal? Can you bump start it with a dead battery? I have lot's more questions if anyone is willing to answer:D

Sounds like a fantastic bike. If you want that type of motorcycle get one, build some light weight jumper cables and go ride.

I like it just fine but have questions about some specifics. Not many people willing to share details regarding the bike. Dealers here are clueless on any specifics. They don't even know what the warranty is (6 months, 1 year, 30 days, ETC)

In general there are tons of aftermarket things for these bikes considering how new they are. Most ktm/berg parts bolt right on, for example handlebar accessories, exhaust, and motor parts. I just found out that some OEM parts are backordered already like the clutch master cylinder (don't ask) and the only issue I've had with my 350 was the top clutch perch cracked in half when I was checking bolts for tightness on the bike but Halls took care of me.
No kicker no big deal, pulled holeshot at my last race. It will bump start with a dead battery and you can add a kicker to the non- MX bikes that have the little plug on the side of the motor. I do not know if the MX bikes will bump with no battery.
My 570 berg with no kicker (not even an option) couldn't produce enough juice on its own to bump start if battery was dead.
I want to say my dealer said it was 30 day warranty short enough that I figured I'd be SOL if anything did break but a good dealer will usually help if its obviously a defect.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. That helps with some questions. I did finally get in touch with halls and confirmed the 30 day warranty.

thats seems like a really standard part across many models and I find it really odd you cant get one.
Yeah my thoughts exactly! Was able to find one in Milwaukee fortunately! They were backordered until the middle of July.... Apparently all 14' husabergs and Aus. Huskys used the same part number which replaced an old part number. Nobody knew yet if the old part would work on the new bike so put my searching cap on and got a new one.

Looks like I sold my TE310. Buyer is set to pick it up Saturday morning. If all goes well I'll be riding the 501 that afternoon. Have an open house at a local off road riding club (Forest city riders)and I was considering joining the club so it would be a good shakedown run for the new bike. Should let me see how the suspension is for my weight. I'm thinking I will need springs for my weight but we will see. Is the valving easy to compensate for heavier springs on these or will it need a full revalve? All these questions I have...LOL

I'm 225lbs and had my 350 sprung for me. They didn't touch the valving. I found the harder I ride the better it works to a point. From people I've talked to they either love or hate the valving. If I go slow it feels stiff and choppy if I go avg. to fast (ish) it feels smooth. I'd suggest starting off right by springing it for your weight then ride it and see what you think. You'll have a reference to start from and it should be easier to explain to someone what, if anything, you don't like about the valving.

Hope your 310 sale goes through and congrats on the new 501!

I checked around and since the MSO just says motorcycle, my DMV will issue plates without an issue. I HOPE! If not the old Husky plates will be strapped on until I find an alternative plan. Sicass rear brake actuator should fix the tail light issue. Anyone know if the FE has a single bulb or dual to support a brake light function?

Just for reference the FE350 I rode seemed about perfect for me suspension wise. 205 pounds, lots of heavy trail tools and stuff, semi fast trail rider.
