  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2014 FE 501 - What is it?

I'm 225lbs and had my 350 sprung for me. They didn't touch the valving. I found the harder I ride the better it works to a point. From people I've talked to they either love or hate the valving. If I go slow it feels stiff and choppy if I go avg. to fast (ish) it feels smooth. I'd suggest starting off right by springing it for your weight then ride it and see what you think. You'll have a reference to start from and it should be easier to explain to someone what, if anything, you don't like about the valving.

What springs did you end up with? nearly the same weight as me, I have .48's in the fork and just about to get a 6.0 for the rear as I couldn't get the right sag numbers on 5.7.

What sag are you running 105 or 100mm?

FYI. I have been doing some research regarding the mapping on the stock FE 2014 Husqvarnas. Main reason I'm interested is because my bike runs really hot on warm days while riding single track. The fan runs constantly and I had some heavy decel popping but since I reset the TPS voltage it cured that issue. My local KTM/Husky dealers had no idea what actual ECU mapping was loaded on the new FE models so I began calling around. Munn racing finally answered my question explaining that they come with the USA XC W mapping, which is a green sticker approved format. It's not as bad as the EXC but not much better either. They recommend going with the Euro XC W mapping but first the ECU has to be wiped clean, which unlocks it, then flashed with a new map. After that, one could install a handlebar switch to cycle through 3 different maps per their liking or riding conditions. The new map is supposed to cure the hot lean running condition. I know some of you already reflashed your 350's with good results but nobody actually knew what map was on there prior to a reflash. Thought I would pass this information on since it seems nobody really knew exactly what mapping was included from the factory.

All the KTM and Bergs I ride with are hot runner regardless of maps so I would concentrate some effort on that issue. ZipTy coolant might be good too.

I called another local KTM dealer that used to sell Husky but decided to not carry the new Huskys and just sell KTM. They are checking to see what maps they have access to for the 500 KTM based engines and they sound like they will flash my ECU. My question is, what is the actual KTM map I need to have installed and what is it's number? I hear lots of comments about Euro map this and Aussie map that but can someone tell me exactly what my local dealer needs to have in his computer so I can fix my lean running bike? Is this the map that will allow me to install the 3 position switch on the bars too? I hate to drive all the way down to Halls or ship my ECU to Munn's if I can support a local dealer. TIA
