  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Nice. Which Motoz tires are those, and what size?

Most of the parts are installed. The only thing left is the metal tank elbow. I'm going to need something to put the FULL tank of gas in LOL Poor planning I guess.
It went much easier than I thought, I had to remove the muffler anyway so I just took out the top two subframe bolts and loosened the bottom ones. Easy access to the screws on the fuel rail, they came right out with an extension on my impact driver, quick whack and they were loose. I will admit it would help to have really small hands. About 2 hours into the job so far but would be faster the next time.
I'll finish it up tomorrow and take it for a test ride...stay tuned

Hi John,
Can you tell me more about the metal tank elbow that you upgraded to? I guess you changed it because the stock one was not as good. Please tell me where you got it and if you have a part number that would be appreciated. I would rather upgrade parts that may fail and pay the price rather than be surprised after driving 150+ miles to ride. Thanks. Besides the tires, fuel injector, ECU, and sprockets, are there any other things you think I should upgrade on my 2012 TE250?

I will add that I have done the 12 port fuel injector/ECU upgrade and changed the sprocket to a 12/50. Got Motoz Tractionator tires which are awesome, and Barkbuster handguards. My bike is completely powered up to include taking the catalytic converter out of the exhaust pipe. I love the bike now as a trail bike and it handles beautifully. It surprises me how well it will tractor up a hill. Other things I did to my bike is added a Kouba link (1") that probably lowered my bike about a half an inch, and the dealer lowered my forks a little. I also took the seat cover off and cut off about a 1/2 inch of foam with an electric knife, then sanded it with a block of wood with 60 grit sandpaper. Stapled the seat cover back down and presto, the bike fits my 5'5" body better. With all the upgrades, the 2012 TE250 is truly a great trail bike. Top speed is about 65-70 wound out, but will only cruise at about 45 to 50 for a short time comfortably. Set up this way it is a TRAIL bike and I love it.

Not John, but if you did the injector/ECU upgrade, that means you have had the tank off. If you've had the tank off and did not break the plastic fuel elbow, you might be ok as is. I doubt you will break the OEM elbow while riding. Most folks do it when removing or re-installing the tank.

I got it from ZipTy Racing, one of the sponsers for Cafe Husky. Mine wasn't broken but I figured it would only be a matter of time. I had a plastic fuel connector break on my BMW R 1150 so I just considered this preventive maintenance. I doubt if it would break unless removing or installing the tank.
You have done just about everything I did, the only thing I'm waiting for now is a seat cover from Seat Concepts and a rear rack.

Thanks for the responses. I will order the part from ZipTy.

When I took the tank off to replace the injector and ECU, I had a hard time getting the fuel connector off. Instead of disconnecting from the tank elbow, I disconnected from the connector near the fuel injector as shown in the picture.

When you took off the connector, did you have to use any tools besides your fingers? I had to use plyers with small raised squares taped to the plyers to push the gray releases in as I couldn't do it with my fingers. I thought that there may be a special tool to depress the fuel line releases.

People are adapting tools for this like hose pliers. Maybe glue little raised squares to the gray releases would make this easier in the field.

Mine came right off, maybe I was just lucky :)

This is exactly what I would like to do if I get a TE250. Can you give me an estimate or list of the costs of the mods you did so I can get an ideal of what the total cost of the bike will be? Thanks! Is the 12 port injector something the dealer installs? or is it aftermarket?

Not John (starting to become a trend), but I dropped my bike off the work stand last night on the left side. It landed with a pretty good thud on the concrete floor with absolutely no damage to the left radiator. I have Enduro Engineering radiator guards installed on mine.

Looking good John are those the TRACTIONATORS? I love mine. Hey what kind of rad guards are those? I think that's my next purchase since I bashed in my right side pretty badly.. Still works fine though

Yes, Enduro I/T and radiators are just stock. I make it a point not to fall or run into things....

12 port fuel injector/ECU upgrade was $380 plus tax and shipping or about $440. If you are going to use this bike as a dirt bike you need it.

...changed the sprocket to a 12/50...cheap.. about $25 USD with shipping. If you are cost conscience and want better performance then this is what you want. The chain you have will most likely support the smaller sprocket. For my DIRT bike, I really like the 12/50 combo. I'm thinking of going to the 52 rear and buying a new chain.

Got Motoz Tractionator tires which are awesome... The new tires make a world of difference in the handling of the bike compared to the stock tires. Get heavy duty tubes while you are at it and have a dealer install. I tried to do it myself and punctured the heavy duty tube. It is a tight fit and it probably best done with a machine.

and Barkbuster handguards that were $140 shipped to my house. You need these to protect your hands and your levers. I busted my shift lever on my second ride which cost me $50. The Barkbusters (or similar) would have prevented it.

Good luck. The Husky TE250 is a great street legal dirt bike once you get it modded.

Everything in the post above is 100% correct. My bike is a carbon copy of this description. But I have a rekluse**************************************** The one thing is.... I wish I just had more bottom end torque so that I could blip the front end up over larger obstacles. The only way to do this on this bike at low speeds is to "rev and pop", but that can get out of control sometimes... Otherwise it's a great bike for most off road conditions.

Great news, thanks for the info. There a a couple of dealers that still have new ones on the floor. I bet I can get a good deal on one!
