  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I picked the bike up used, only 50 miles on it at the time. I have changed the rear sprocket from the stock 40 to a 52 and it is MUCH better in the woods. I have noticed the bike bike does not have much power at all just off an idle, not good if you're trying to jump a large log.
I don't have the "blue button " on the bars. My question is whether the ECU has both maps in it and all I need is the button or not.

Has the power up kit been fitted? Easy check is if the lambda has been removed from the header pipe.

The ECU will have both maps in it but full power is the default, the switch will just allow you to access the wet weather / slippery ground map which is softer than full power.

The 12 hole injector kit improves bottom end response considerably, much discussion on here about it!

The sensor is still in place and I don't have the 12 hole injector. If this is now full power it really is not much good at low speed at all. I don't see how the 12 hole injector can improve low end by itself with out a remap of the ECU.

The 12 hole injector kit comes with a remapped ECU to suit. The difference is considerable.

However your bike will improve a little if the lambda is removed and the ECU is switched to 'race' mode by fitting the resistor to the loom. Currently the bike is running in emissions friendly mode which doesn't give the best performance.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know

Does the Race ECU (one that comes with 12 hole injector) have 2 maps?

OK, George put the Race ECU and injector on my 2012TE310..... Says it rips but will have to check AFR for street as it's probably a bit rich for cruising the beach.

Does anyone on here have a "2012" TE 250 that has managed to make it run better. I don't want to spend several hundred dollars on a ECU and injector. This year does NOT have the blue button, although the wiring is there. I have no problem bypassing the oxygen sensor if that will make any difference at all. My dealer claims the stock ECU does NOT have two maps, but he could be wrong I guess. The throttle stop , air filter and canister have been done already.
Anyone???

My bike had the button and two maps in the stock ECU. George could see them when he powered it up on iBeat. Mine ran better as It got more mileage. Changed rear to a 45 and added Uptite free flowing exhaust. Still I wanted the race ECU and injector, got it, had George install it and he says it rips. It just needs a little AFR work to be better around town. I've been up skiing while he did this so he's been riding it around on errands. Call him if you want some advice. 1 714 540-2920

Thanks..but you have a TE 310, not the same thing.

Hi John,

I have a 2012 TE 250 with the 12 hole injector and the remapped ECU that came with it. I also have the lambda removed and all the associated 'race' mods. The difference between it now and bone-stock is like night and day. No more fluffy throttle, flame-outs, etc but plenty of 'brap' off a closed throttle...no issues popping the front over logs, etc.

The stock bike was prone to what you're suffering - not much off a closed throttle and also a bit poor in power delivery terms. Aside from the extra power, the mods also make the throttle response smoother but still with a huge difference in torque and power delivery...it's like a totally different motor.

Oh yeah, I also have the blue button and keep it in Race Map 1 but two are available.

Similar perhaps, but the 250 doesn't have the blue button, my question was whether the ECU was the same as the 310. I was hoping for some one with a 2012 TE 250 who had bypassed the sensor and found out it does indeed have two maps.
Some bikes did not have the button or the dealer left it off or ?????? But the ECU is the same. You can add the button but I doubt you'll like the cost. I'm nearly certain the stock bike should have had it.

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I just got off the phone with the dealer and he confirmed what you did is the best way to go. Throw money at it LOL

I just got off the phone with the dealer, the 2012 bikes do not have it and have a different ECU. If I remove the sensor they can remap my ECU for me. The button is $22.75 but it won't do me much good.

Chris...do I understand you correctly the your ECU is the one that came with the bike and only remapped? And that you added the blue button?

I'm pretty sure the ECU is a physically different one that came supplied with the injector kit. My dealer did the power up, ecu, injector, button and all the other 'race' upgrades all at once as part of the (very good) deal on the bike. I'd already done about 40hrs on a bone-stock 2012 TE 250 before getting mine, so the upgrade was hugely noticeable, in a good way....different bike all together.

Ok, I'm guessing that is the ECU and injector from the TXC Thanks again
