    Amen to that
they seem to hold them back quite a bit, certainly looking at the CR ignition
but money is tight, we are replacing stuff and rebuilding the house do to a fire

Anyone know if parts from the 03, 04 or 05 models would work? Are they any different from the 02?

FYI I rode my 02 CR250 with my buddy with a 07 WR250 yesterday. We swapped off and there is no comparison, the CR makes way more power and is actually more usable too. Super linear and powerful. He was disappointed with his WR after riding my bike (perspective is everything) to some extent and one more guy looking for a 02 CR ignition to swap.

interesting comment about the usable power, seems they pull similar till the WR just stops pulling and as far as I am concerned too early
correct me on this if I am wrong

The WRs seem to have softer bottom then kind of a hit and a good top end. The CR has more bottom, more mid and more top and is linear, no real hit just pulls everywhere. Not bashing on the Wr at all, great motor but back to back they are different animals. The CR has different ignition, cylinder and I think more compression. The CR is a lot more powerful and it is very noticeable. I will note mine is not 100% stock. I have no idea if any else was done tot he motor but it has a reed spacer plate and V-force 3 reeds which did not come on this bike. The rest looks completely stock including the pipe. My buddy with the WR wants his to run like my CR. The lack of flywheel weight does not seem to hinder the CR as you can short shift it and grunt it like a good running 300 and also get into the mid and top power quicker should you choose. I'm fining this motor fantastic for me.

Just a thought but I would say both power valves would need to be set the same before the ignition comparison. I have an 07 WR 250 and the way you describe the CR power sounds just like the power my WR puts out. Not bashing just a thought.

I have a 2000 KTM 250 exc and ride with a guy who has a 2010 KTM 250 XCR-W the power of both those bikes is nothing, notta, not even close to the power of the the WR. You can lug lug lug the WR but twist the throttle and it's giddy up time. The KTMs are nice to ride but do not have the EXPLOSION the WR has. The WR easily feels like a 300 compared to them.

Its not a PV setting the difference was huge between these two particular bikes. His WR was running fine and has had it since new so knows how the power feels. I;m just reporting. He was happy as a clam with the WR power until he rode my bike. I have owned many WR250's (bought new ones in 99 and 02) and rode many more but this is my first CR250. This CR has more power and way more linear.

With my CR ignition on I can run one to two pilots and 3 to 4 main higher on jetting and it runs cleaner than the WR set up.

IMO, I think the WR ignitions are a major cause of WR seizer and piston failures. I think you have to jet much leaner to get them to run clean and run end up basically running the top end too dry. Just my $ 0.02.

so you say the JD box and 2002 CR ignition is the ticket
do you have the curve this creates or know where to find it
looking at my 99 WR360 curve and it seems acceptable for the CC's but always open to smoother power as I feel it is way too flat, BUT it might be the cylinder design, ports etc. as my 93 is way more progressive on the power an the 92 I used to have was explosive in comparison, it would actually rev
so back to the point as I have no data on the 92 or 93 I am guessing
does anyone have access to a factory manual for those years??

99 manual curves on pages 251 and 252

Not I don't have the curve from the JD box. I've tried several times to get the programing software, but have had no luck.

The '02 CR250 manual shows the stock CR curve, which is very close to the WR curve, but they don't act the same. IMO.

husky is / was horrible with their info. WRs showing zero motor changes but with different pipes and jetting specs etc.

Yeah, I'm not sure I buy that either. The '01 uses a similar ignition, but the trigger on the flywheel is much smaller, which won't allow for the same amount of advance as the bigger trigger of the '02 flywheel. I tired an '01 flywheel with the JD box and it would not run right. The timing curve did weird things that indicated the trigger was too small. So, I doubt they have anything close in timing curves.

I'd like to discontinue my account
So if one was going to do this conversion on a new 300 for example.... can you still buy new 02 ignition components? What exactly would you need for parts to plug and play this? Do you need to get a custom box from JD or use the cr125 box or how does all that work? Just curious because I often get pulled by kx250's or at least equal yo them on top end and have had KTM 300's pull me out of corners, its not by much but its enough to get my wheels spinning on this deal??

    Take a look at this:
    http://www.halls-cycles.com/images/PDF/Husqvarna .PDFs/1998-2004/2002/02_250-360.pdf#page=71

I'm not sure if they are available anymore, but you'd need these from what I can tell:
    8000 91952 ( flywheel/stator - I don't see it being found in Hall's price catalog)
    8000 91953 ( CDI ~$200 or the JD one)
    8000 72887 ( Coil - Not seeing it found on Hall's either)

    Then probably some smaller parts.
