I have to say for me its Dick Burleson.... 8 Consecutive AMA national championships.....8 consecutive ISDE medal wins..he had motocoss wins too...was also awarded athlete of the year... Id say thats pretty good...
Kevin Hines and Terry Cunningham. Of course got to include King Richard too. Only shame was Hines won his National Enduro Championship the year he left Husky and went with KTM. Some other legendary desert guys too, but being an east coast guy and knowing some may "lurk" here............I decided to not mention some of their names but you can read them at the AMA hall of fame! HOOOAH! Joe
I notice you guys list your favs...that correspond to the early cagiva period....or before the change over...cool stuff Mine was always seeing Burleson getting publicity in the magazines taking credit in the 70's husky period....but they were all on the same team at the same time at one point.. and then skidaddled....after the take over when I was a young lad....of course
Torsten Hallman, Heikki Mikkola, Bengt Aberg... Malcom Smith. Bengt Aberg Look close. 1969 500... twin. Yes... I'm that old.
Being an east coast endurocentric kid.... I read about those guys (even saw Malcolm ride at '73 ISDT in Mass.), but of that period, John Penton was my favorite Husky rider.
Mikkola and Aberg kicked butt in the GPs. Watching JN Roberts bomb across the desert was also very impressive.
Me too! Had the opportunity to ride in several events that he was in and I was always impressed out how effortless he made the most difficult situations seem. Great guy, too!
BTW, that 500 twin also made it into a Seeley-framed, factory-sponsored GP roadracer. It is on dispaly at the HVA factory museum in Huskvarna.
"The east coast endurocentric kid".......hey Norman thats got a nice ring to it.... I also admired Kent Howerton we was very dedicated to husky...and one could make mention of Brad Lackey who signed with Husky in 74'...
Currently my favorite rider of all time is someone that is having trouble logging into Cafe Husky. Trying my best to make that happen.
