  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc WR300 too much bike

I had an interesting phone call this weekend. A gentleman called me this weekend asking if I still had my TXC310 for sale, when I told him no, he asked me if I knew much about the WR 300, to which I said a little bit.

Basically, he said it was way too much bike for him, 1st and 2nd were useless because there was too much power but he loved the top end for the desert roads he frequents. I tried to get a little more information from him so I could help him as much as I could. I told him to call up ZypTy racing to see if there was a flywheel weight he could add on to it to tame it or even if there was a spring in the exhaust power valve( they have power valves right).

This is a 2012, he didn't get the rebate when he bought it and can't sale it without taking too much of a hit.

You guys got any advice for him? I'm sure he'll be calling me back. . I'm sure if anybody was interested in trading there 310 for his 300, I'm sure he would be very interested.

He actually lives in Evanston Wyoming so not too far from that guy. With the low hours on the bike, I think he is looking at getting closer to 4900 for the bike, i'll have to direct him to that post.

Yes. 250 can be swapped. But with right gearing and pipe and jetting and flywheel (if needed) should be able to make it work well! Is a beast to kickstart compared to a WR 250****************************************

I'd love to sell my 610 for $20,000, but that doesn't make it realistic. ;) No way he is getting $4900 unless he finds a VERY clueless buyer.

I'd also recommend the G2 Ergo throttle cam. I have one on mine and it's plenty snappy even with the "laziest" cam; the stock one was way too much for the woods for me. Jetting can also make a difference in power delivery.

I wonder what the guy expected when he bought a 300cc 2-stroke...

Stealy makes a FWW that helps a bit and a gnarly pipe helps a little a rekluse could maybe help some by allowing him to run a gear high. By the time you did all that you'd still have a 300 2 stroke so it might be money well spent to just go for the 250 kit.

I bet someone, maybe on this forum, would be willing to trade their 250 top end for his 300 top end, straight up. Problem (maybe) solved.

Hmmm....not what I have found with my 300. First and second seem pretty wide, and bike goes bup bup and tip toes over gnarley stuff if you are just gentle on the throttle. I'd agree that if throttle modulation is a problem, a smaller cam on the throttle tube would probably be just the ticket.

Lectron or a R-B Designs carb setup can help make these more tractable, then maybe gear it up a bit. I do agree that the 300 is a whole lotta power and as delivered is probably an open spaces bike, but all the suggestions above would make it mellower. He may also find that a proper suspension setup will make it easier to ride. I find that the WRs are soft in front and stiff in back from the factory.

now I wonder if my 300 is underpowered

another idea is to use rekluse. this way he can safely ride gear higher..

Yep, like others have said:

Definitely a G2 throttle cam to prevent the whiskey throttle moments. I put mine on to keep me fresh and minimize mistakes at the end of a race where I might think I'm pulling in the clutch, but mine whole left arm is really just a spasm of muscle locked to the bar. ~$100

If he is only going wide open type, go to a 14 tooth sprocket up from, with the 48 in back. This will take some of the hit off, but help in the higher speed stuff. It takes a lot more clutch use in the gnarly 1st/2nd gear stuff. ~$20

Lectron to smooth things out all around, as a side it will give more for the fast desert road stuff and mpg. ~$380

He could swap to a 250 top end. It will rev quicker, and will be a faster bike once rolling, but it will have a lot less grunt. I'm not real satisfied with the downgrade on mine. It still has some grunt to it, but not so much you can be lazy and get away with nearly everything with it like on the 300. ~$ depends on if you can find used or pay $$$ to the dealer for new

And suspension to keep him fresh for longer, mistakes mainly happen when you're tired, so don't get tired so soon.

Good list going. A Rekluse might be his answer. Mellows them out and makes them much less abrupt and EZer to manged and is like cheating.
