As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
I think if you do get a WR 250/300 you should probably go with a 2010 or newer. Unless it is a screaming deal on a '09. The digital ignition is supposed to be smoother and good for a little more power, I think the pipe may also be improved. It's a tough call and I rode a '12 ktm 250 XC yesterday in flip flops. Too soon to tell but the nastier the conditions the better for the Husky.
It's not much of a technical answer, but I kind of find myself riding in a sea of orange out here and I'm enjoying being pretty much the only 2-stroke Husky at any given riding area. The orange guys seem to cluster together
I've seen it myself, they pass around the pumpkin kool-aid before they ride.
Subframe inserts.Wow, that is the first time I have heard issues of coolant leaks on a WR. I am not doubting you, just never heard of that issue. Also did you mean subframe spinning insert and not the swing arm?
That was one of the issues I had.I had a coolant hose leak on my '09 300. The nipple on the water pump casting was mismatched. Simple fix: 30 minutes of sanding the edges. No biggie, but I agree it's not good on a brand new bike.
I paid $4800 for mine, so spending $250 for a carb and adding a P3 skid plate wasn't that painful. Isn't spending 30 minutes checking bolt torque standard protocol ?
I've had zero mechanical issues with mine
