Why are the prices so high?

Could the vintage motocross racing be reason? Is the vintage and post vintage racing becoming more popular?

I was thinking the common man could race at the cost of the used bike. But there as high as $5,000 us dollars.

Yes, stuff going back up again.
If it doesn't sell and there is a lot of surplus. Prices will drop.
When you see these cowboys on ebay ask high prices, then everyone raises theirs. Do not buy.
They will drop prices back down.

I don't think it is the vintage racing. I looked at the results from the vintage classes that are run in conjunction with the NETRA junior enduro and see three classes and 16 total entrants. Fastest time came out of the middle class not the disc brake allowed. Where do they do the ahmra or some letters like that events around here?

The cost of crashing and getting injured makes $5000 pretty insignificant.

For me, I see three new leftover 250cc four stroke bikes for $6000. 2013 husaberg, 2014ktm, 2014 ktm/husqvarna that I could get and beat the sales tax with an out of state residence.

Ebay is so complicated now, there used to be like 400 listings and I was frustrated with the husqvarna clocks coming up. I just tried one of my old searches last night and got 6000. What looks like the last version of a 250 cylinder, the ones with the transfers connected to the reed cage, not from a new risky seller sitting at $40 with one day left, same price as that plastic water pump housing. I wander around the completed items and the clutch cover I found approx $85 seemed like 10 or so years ago to me. Most of the stuff has most likely been broken down for parts by now. I am not so sure things are as high as you imply, there are guys that join on here that have just purchaced a bike and say how much it cost.

It costs like $100 or more to enter an event now, at least for me, gasoline for the hauler, entry fee, gate/parking fee-donation. There are other things join AMA, join NETRA or similar or pay fee if out of the area, transponder bar code if applicable.

NETRA Vintage racing is going to be a sanctioned/championship class next season. There are alot of guys building bikes this winter and everyone is pulling for parts. Husky stuff is not as popular and is harder to find. Vintage racing is only going to get bigger and bikes/parts prices will go up. I am trying to get as much Husky stuff as I can afford when I see a deal. Looking forward to racing with you next season. It is a great group of riders.

The internet has made vintage repair/restoration easy and accessible for the average joe. However, I will not pay the grossly inflated prices found on ebay, in the UK, Australia, and some others. Deals can still be had on Craigslist. Reputable suppliers like Huskydoggg, Hall's, and Husky Junk provide service and parts at fair prices.

He is right on the money! We need a classified section on here and it will draw some others once they find out it is on this sight.

some stuff you are correct...more will likely never be made. and i understand that some prices are high for certain things, and thats fair. im talking about the asshat price gouging that goes on. and the high prices for stuff that has been repop'd and is sometimes superior. i would really like to see a section where we could help each other out at fair prices.

We shall see under BMW some stuff like exhaust rubber/stud went down in price at Halls. Ktm parts now are available on rocky mountain atv now, kind of scary compared to say yamaha parts. It is pretty easy to get an idea of their idea of parts pricing. And husqvarna kind of is replacing husaberg not going head to head with yamaha as we were lead to believe a year or two ago.

I am not sure I could help out too much with my parts pile, what is bent busted worn out in my pile is likely the same elsewhere.

Some of the problem with ebay is there is really no insertion fee anymore but total fees are like three times they have been in the past. There is no cost to put out high priced stuff. It used to be the seller could send a brick instead of the listed item, now the buyer can return a trashed item for a good one and ebay sides with the buyer. If you are not in a position to accept this reality don't list.

I have no issue listing stuff on eBay at what I call the "if you really want it more than I do price". What I don't do is mislead buyers with crappy pictures and poor descriptions. I take excellent picture, of clean parts and stand by what I sell. While I list stuff as "no return" I've never not addressed an issue with a buyer. Had problems twice on non-motorcycle items that I reolved at no cost to buyer.

Unfortunately for me, 3 weeks after buying my 1984 500CR several years ago, had a family emergency/crisis that has cost me $60k and still counting, which is the main reason I have parts listed.

At the end of the day, I really don't want to sell anything.

You have agreed to ebay or paypal arbitrating disputes and participating in the buyer protection program. If you take pay pal you have agreed to take returns. Sellers in general have agreed not to do keyword spamming or putting stuff in the wrong category. Obviously the rules are enforced not much or in an arbitrary way once a dispute arises. I moved over to business and industrial sections mostly by now.

There are still good buys out there but the high priced ones I can't do.
I'm trying to build my 80/82 420/430 cr/wr project bikes from parts. I have one complete bike so far. The cost wasn't too bad. I get the pleasure of building it with my son. Plus my 16yo grandson may help too. It's educational and we can't put a price on education. The husqvarnas are worth keeping running. It's in my blood.

I sell parts on ebay from time to time when I have something extra or to help offset the cost of a part I just bought. I always start the price low, if it's worth more it will get bid up. If it doesn't sell then it has no value. With the time it takes and the fees involved if it won't bring $20 plus the shipping (which is getting absurd) it's just not worth the trouble.

Good deals can still be found but you're not gonna get that perfect tank or 250 mag pipe for nothing. On the other hand the guys listing a good normal used wheel for a $300 opening bid can just keep relisting it, I'll build a new wheel, hubs are cheap and plentiful.

You gotta have some patience when using ebay, if you buy the first thing you see you may get gouged big time. I see people selling used husky parts for more than the price of new ones simply because people will buy them. It is always better to look around and ask at places like cafe husky !!!

It takes patience around here too folks start threads asking things they could figure out themselves studying the parts sheets. They seem to be called ipl in other forums, illustrated parts list. For some perhaps just point and click on ebay has it's plus side.

It certainly is supply and demand that affects pricing.
But there's also the emotional side of it... 'I really want that, so I'm gunna buy it' mentality. I think we're all guilty of that.

Ebay does make life easier and can be a good tool if you cant find what your looking for at a reputable supplier. I'm thankful that guys re-manufacture parts, buy old stock from b#mf&ckville wherever and place it for sale on the net.
It helps me keep my old bikes running and me happy.

Perhaps there are too many of us old codgers wanting to ride our old bikes?
