  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Turning a WR250 into a WR300?

I'm glad that 250 is gone, so I don't have to think about it anymore. Congratulations!

+1 on the 6 speed, I've been looking for one for awhile now.

There is a 96 wxc 250 in Sacramento for 1000 or best offer. Perfect bike to part. Its on Craigs list. Probably salvage most of the bike to fleabay and end up with the tranny. Of course if it still runs well it will be hard to part.

Well, it might be kind of a kamikazi trip if we drive up to get it. If we had time we'd be up for a ride, for sure! If we can get it to Bend and then our friends from La Pine pick it up there, we'll probably be doing a ride at Shasta-Chappie. It's a few minutes from I-5, too, but it's in far NorCal.

Everything is up in the air right now...

Yep! Just got your PMs! I've been gone most of the afternoon. I think we're going to just blast up there this weekend and pick the bike up. It will be nice to meet Bill personally (and you if you're planning on being at the shop sometime Saturday:)) plus the ride at Chappie wasn't looking like it was going to happen. Thanks so much, though...that was incredibly cool of you to help a total stranger  We're still trying to plan a ride to Chappie with Cindi and Robert before it gets buried in snow so maybe you can get in on that and ride with us?

Thanks again, and hope to meet you on Saturday, too!

Just curious but have you talked to Bill about shipping the bike? I bought one from him and he shipped to to SoCal via Yellow frieght. If I recall correctly the cost was just a little over $300. You could spend close to that on gas just to run up there and back.

I was wondering about that too. Bills shipping rates are very reasonable.

Woodschick,

Get an extra set of the side panels that say: WR 300 on them. Switch them out with the 250 ones. Everyone that rides it will think it's a 300. Cheap conversion! Would be fun just to count the number of people who would ride it/ comment about it being a 300?

Congrats on the bike! You'll love it!

Yeah, Bill offered to ship it for between $200 and $300. That would be all well and good, but for less than $300 we get to have a road trip and meet Bill in person...and maybe OregonSage, too  And we won't have to wait around for the shipper to get it to us :) Going to get it is a win/win for us :) We've got the time, so why not? :excuseme: It'll be fun!

Ding! Ding! Ding! We've got a winner, folks! :applause: 2 new side panels and voila'! Insta-300! I like the way you think, Darin

Many years ago I had an FZR400 with a slightly massaged 600 motor in it. It was pretty boss with Performance Machine brakes, full custom exhaust...all kinds of fancy go-fast bits. I was in Marin at Tam Junction one morning for the famed Sunday Morning Ride and another FZR400 rode up and came over to talk to me. There weren't many 400's on the street and so it was natural for us to take an interest in one another. He'd never been on the SMR before and was kinda nervous, so I told him to take it easy and stick with me and he'd be fine. Needless to say I smoked him in the fast sections near Olema and he was not happy when he finally showed up at Stinson Beach. He started sputtering stuff about "That's no :censored: 400!" We had a good laugh over it afterwards. Maybe we can do that with the 250, too, only in reverse?

Thanks for the suggestion. Problem solved

Take your camera, and say hello to Bill for me.

Rumor has it he has a corner of his shop called Cafe Husky. :)

(presumably near the coffee pot)

And maybe pick up some 125 stickers for that wr250 just to add a variety into the mix. :p

Ooh! Good idea! Everyone knows I've got a 125 with a 144 kit in it. Maybe I can ride the 250 instead with the 125 stickers on it and then everyone will think I'm fast :D

I'll take photos and I'm sure I'll have a good time. Eric promised me we'd make it to a sports bar in time for the game Saturday so I'm good to go

(ducks for cover...)
Actually DUCKS is correct. Oregon will be in full football frenzy on Saturday. Good luck finding someplace that will tune a TV to something other than the Ducks-USC game. Fortunately for travelers the game is at USC; when the games are in Eugene I-5 turns into a parking lot between Salem and Eugene.

I assume y'all think that baseball series involving the SF Giants is something important though ;)

...however, the '09 stickers dont stay attached anyway. If you want some that say 300 I peeled mine off the first day and I may still have them.

Well, I can certainly understand how Oregon would get pretty excited over a college football game. I mean, Oregon only has one professional sports team (Portland Trailblazers) so they gotta get that sporty hometown pride thing going any way they can :D Here in CA it isn't such a big deal, I guess, because we have 15 professional sports teams to choose from (5 MLB, 3 NFL, 4 NBA and 3 NHL) so those little college sports tend to just fade into the background

Anyway, thanks for the heads-up about the sportsbars. I don't foresee us making it across the state line before 4pm so I'll just have to call around to a few in Ashland/Medford/GP and see what they say.

 I'm just kidding about the stickers. I just thought the idea was quite creative :) My stickers are coming off, too. I could always throw 2010 plastic on it I guess...

Hey congrats on the 250 pick up. I agree road trips to pick up bikes = FUN! Enjoy.

Thanks! We plan on having a good time

Wish I wasn't all smashed up or I'd offer to take you guys riding.

Its a damn shame to drive to NW Oregon and not ride some trails. I cant guide you, but if you're interested I'm sure I can wrestle up some guides for the weekend. The annual 24hr race is happening this weekend, but I know a few guys not going.

I also know a few guys doing some insane hill climbing in Canyonville, OR if you're interested. You'll drive right through it.....

We're not going to have any time to ride, and you're right: it's a cryin' shame, for sure. I could take extra time off but Eric's job is going gangbusters right now and he can't afford to not be there.
Insane hill climbing sounds fun to me, too! We've done some riding out of Selma down near Cave Junction and the hills are monster out there. They just go on and on and on! Big ruts, mud that's slicker than snot, and hills that just never end...good stuff!

How are you feeling, anyway? Got any plans this coming Saturday morning? :)

I'm stir crazy (working from home sucks sometimes), but otherwise well. Through the worst of it, for sure. Thanks!

I do need to go to Salem this week for my friends sons' haunted house. Maybe I'll do it all on Saturday :excuseme:

Well, Cal will be playing in Corvallis against the Beavers so there is an opportunity to see one of your teams.

And, the Nike Ducks are for all intents and purposes a professional football team ... they just dont have to pay salaries to their players
