  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Turning a WR250 into a WR300?

OK, hypothetical situation here...

Say I buy a new 2009 WR250 and want to turn it into a WR300. Is it just a matter of bolting on a new jug and piston? If so, any idea what a cylinder/piston would cost? Do I have to deal with different power valves, cranks or anything?

Just wondering :D

Powerseal turned my yz250 into a yz285 for $400. A whole lot cheaper than buying the factory kit. Plus I got it ported and head modded exactly how I wanted.

As long as the WR250 cylinder and head are the same casting as the WR300 then no reason a motor builder cannot build you one.

Just buy the "KIT" 8000H0915 and you should get everything.

Well, from what I understand a factory 300 "kit" is about $1200 or so.
Might as well buy a `10, I guess, but they don't have the 50mm Zokes like my 144 has. Eric really likes those forks.

Yeah, I guess we could always go that route.

If you re-sleeved a 250, you would either have to replace the powervalves too or have your machinist modify (cut down) the existing valve.

I would love to buy a new cylinder but it does seem too pricey, it does include the piston though.

I think bill still has a 09 300 for $5100

No, I talked to Bill yesterday. Nice guy! All he has is an `09 250 and a few `10 250's and 300's. I think Eric's going to go for the 250. He's been on 250's for a long time but likes the 300 because he can be lazy with all that bottom end. I told him he's still young enough for a 250 :D

Thanks again for the test ride, Tim. I'm a ruined woman now :busted:

'09 250 will have 50mm Zokes, but open chamber, not the closed chamber ones on your '09 WR144. Still good forks.

Thanks for the input, everyone!

We are the proud owners of a new `09 WR250 :applause:

Now we just gotta go to Oregon to get it

I understand now why everyone has multiple Huskys in their garages; They just seem to multiply on their own, don't they? :excuseme:

Thanks! I'm sure we will  Can't wait to ride it. I love Eric's GasGas's because they're small (I'm 5'1") and I ride them quite often. The WR will be tall for me but so is my WR144 so what's the diff? :D

We want to go get it this next weekend but if the Giants are in the World Series I'm going to be attached to the couch instead

If you do go get it next weekend, would you guys be in for a ride? I can think of a couple of fun spots to hit very close to I-5.

Well, it might be kind of a kamikazi trip if we drive up to get it. If we had time we'd be up for a ride, for sure! If we can get it to Bend and then our friends from La Pine pick it up there, we'll probably be doing a ride at Shasta-Chappie. It's a few minutes from I-5, too, but it's in far NorCal.

Everything is up in the air right now...

Yeah.... right....

So any decisions regarding the 300 kit/re-work?

Nah...not yet. I think we're just going to see how it goes before making any decisions. Eric had a ball riding the 250 so he'll probably enjoy it as is :)

If it were me, I'd wait until you could have time to enjoy the trip, miles cost $, and if you don't have time to ride I'm not sure what you need a bike for. :)

And of course ask if Bill has any interest in any extra bikes you might no longer have a need for.

My impression is Bill has several things going on including secondary markets (used bikes/parts), but I am not entirely sure.

"Extra bikes"
Hmm...I...I'm not sure I know what that phrase means

Eric just took a day off to go to the PNW ride. He won't be taking any time off til Thanksgiving and he ain't gonna wait that long. Gas is cheaper than shipping, and we enjoy the road trips, even when they're rushed kamikaze trips.

WoodsChick

Woodschick,

Eric is going to need a 6 speed for the WR250. Really transforms the bike into a do everything bike. Geared low enough to crawl up anything and 6th is still high enough to cruise at 65 for 10 or 15 miles until other parts go numb.

I'll watch for one and you guys should watch craig's list in your area for one or a beat to death older 250 or 360 to harvest one from.
