  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Trials tire on a FE501?

Yup, another tire thread...
So I have a new pirelli MT43 in the shop that was slated for the 310 but I sold the 310 so now I wonder about the 501. 60hp with a 4" tire makes me think it isn't smart. Thoughts?

I'm running the 216aa front. Thinking of selling the pirelli and trying a kenda 270 5.10 rear. I have a couple dual sport events this summer with some street miles so I'm sick of burning off my Michelin knobs. Mostly packed Sandy and rock so a trials would be good I recon. No mud.

No issues there. Ran the MT43 on my fire breathing uncorked Te511, lots of off road and lots of pavement DS rides. Very good do it all DS tire.

Come on Rev, your bike doesn't make that much more power than mine and the MT43 works wonders for me. Heck, you've said it yourself. Now get to work and change that tire.:)

Same here. The MT43 is my new default standard dual sport tire for the TE 511. Works very well. I run it with one rim lock. For dual sport rides that are mostly street, go to 18 lbs. For dual sport that is dirt with some roads go for 12 - 15 psi (15 is better). For all dirt, 10 or less psi.

I currently have two AT81 front tires that I'm trying to burn through on that bike before I switch to the GT 216. But that will be the ultimate combo, I think.

Yah but I'm not a professional like you. I need to cheat. Some say a trials tire is like cheating so maybe it is for me after all.

If I could find a decent spare rear rim, I'd mount up another tire and run them back to back on the same day to see the difference. Pro, hardly. Hack, more likely!

I have a new MT43 in the garage but I have someone local interested in buying it. I'm leaning towards a k270 in a 5.10 width. The MT43 is a more expensive tire but they're pretty close in price.

BTW I am running a Kenda 270 on my CR250 husky for summer riding and like it. Run it at 6-8 psi and it works great and is very robust. It actually seems to work better as is wears. Lasts a LONG time. I also took my 4" cut off wheel and "siped" the knobs and really think it helped. Real good tire for general semi dry use.

A metal hack saw does good sipes as well. It's just the perfect thickness and works fast. I've used a pneumatic cutoff wheel too but the burning rubber smell about gags me.
