  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

FE/FC Trials tire on a FE501?

I do perpendicular. I think it allows the Knob to open up and grip better in wet hard conditions. It's supposed to run cooler too. Might be snake oil...

BTW I am running a Kenda 270 on my CR250 husky for summer riding and like it. Run it at 6-8 psi and it works great and is very robust. It actually seems to work better as is wears. Lasts a LONG time. I also took my 4" cut off wheel and "siped" the knobs and really think it helped. Real good tire for general semi dry use.

Do you have any pictures? I'm intrigued.

This tire has about 900 hard rocky miles on it. Still gobs of miles left in it. Zero chunking, good tracking, very durable. the horizontal lines are what I cut in with a cut off wheel. That was quite the smoke show :)

Hacksaw works perfect. I put 2 sipes per knob. Currently I have a Michelin S12 xc soft intermediate on the rear. The blade on a hack saw is thin so the sipe is almost like a knife cut. I wonder if a guy could have a tire shop use a siping machine? I think discount tire does it. I had some BF Goodrich all terrains done and it helped at the boat launch.

The MT-43 is a tire in respect that it's round and black. It does get pretty good traction as long as it's driving forward and no mud is involved, but put the brakes on and it turns into a slick on wet pavement. I personally find this tire dangerous. If you're going to run a trials tire (MT-43 really isn't) I'd recommend the Dunlop 803 with a 140/80 Bib mousse

What FRONT tire would be a good match for the MotoZ Mountain Hybrid on the rear?

note: I do more intermediate mx type fast single track stuff and like still hitting turns and burms along with bumbling through mildly rocky trails too.

You are not kidding about the MT43 turning into a slick in the mud. I've had no problems braking with it but going forward even with a little sticky mud and it is terrible. Even spinning it to help it clear doesn't work very well. Otherwise, I like it a lot. However, my experience with other tires is limited. I had a Michelin S-12 on it before the Pirelli and it worked well. The MT43 works better everywhere other than in the mud. My riding is all trails, sand in Michigan, dirt at Loretta's, concrete in Illinois. (sitting in my garage) :'(

Golden Tire GT216AA The last front tire you will ever buy.

I'm very fond of the M-59 Bridgestone as a great front tire. Mail order shops are aware of it's performance and have priced it accordingly now. The AT-81 Dunlops are a great tire too. Just don't get the RC (reinforced carcus) it makes the sidewalls too stiff and traction suffers. That 501 could certainly use the 120 series. Long lasting and great traction.

Nice. I read Chilly's review on that one, had it in the back of my mind for sure. Good to know. Thanks, Duane

Good luck finding one though. I've had some on order since early January and I just got off the phone with ZipTy and they now say another 3 weeks at least. Looks like I'll be buying something else this summer. I don't have time for crap like this since my riding season is so short here. Does anyone know of another importer for the 216AA?

i found a an outfit in Florida on the web:excuseme: ill see if i can do it again

I sent a message to the Goldentyre office in the USA, regarding the availability of the tires, and received this message:

"Dear John,

Thank you very much for your message.

We have been receiving few emails in regards to those tires and it is our desire to have them available in the US sooner than later.

We just opened our operations in the US a couple of months ago and we are focusing on establishing the distribution network at this time.

The best way to speed things up and have those particular type of tires in the US is to compile a pre-order of a pallet so they can be delivered in a fair amount of time.

If you know enough people that would like to get together and make a pre-order (10 sets is 1 pallet) then we can have the tires on US territory in 1 week time from when the pre-order takes place.

Our hope is, when the interest picks up, to be able to stock these tires.

Feel free to connect with us at any time if you have any other question or to proceed with the order of 1 pallet.

We should have the tire's price in USD very soon as well.

Thank you.

Kind regards,

Stefy Bau

I will contact Goldentyre to find out if they will receive the pallet of 10 sets and distribute individual sets, or if they will only send the entire pallet to one address.

If they will only ship to one address, I am willing to buy the ten sets, and ship them to anyone else who is interested, for the cost of the tires plus shippng cost. As I am located in Connecticuit, it would be cheaper to find people in the eastern US who may be interested in participating in the purchase of a pallet.

Anyone interested?

Looks good on paper, but that week number is not accurate. More like 4 weeks. Burning Zipty won't win you any brownie points either.

its all good tink your the only place in the US that ever has any...... i called a few or there so called [dealers] and got the same response YES WE ARE A GT DEALER NO WE DONT HAVE ANY TYRES PLEASE CALL BACK IN A 2 WEEKS OR LATER SO SORRY at least ZTR really dose have tyres i know i want a pair and ill get them from you it would just be nice to walk n2 Mo's house of mosicles and leave with a set

that post before last is going on 3 years old and you still cant get'em at Mo's kinda makes you:thinking: do they want to sell tires in the US:excuseme:

You know how this will end right? Once they become easily available here in the states, they will change the compound and the tires will suck. It's like salt in the wound. Lets hope not. This scenario has happened before.
