• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Trials Bike thread.

Hey Robert! Was out at McCain last weekend and there were two trials riders having a go. One casual and the other pretty serious. Definitely looked like fun....:)

Yet another player in the trials game. http://www.trsmotorcycles.com/TRS-Motorcycles

That makes for quite a variety of brands available. Cool stuff.

Beta
Sherco
Vertigo
Montessa
Scorpa
TRS
Jotagas supposedly shipping new models to the US now. according to a trials dealership
Ossa looking for a new home to build their bikes. They were being built out of the gas gas factory but are now looking for someone to build their bikes. according to the same dealership.

I'm kinda surprised the LHRB idea has not caught on with this group as the front wheel never touches anything.

subject change--I am still amazed at the bike physics of what is being done by these guys like Raga. It seems almost impossible to get from one place to the other like they do. load/unload/pop/shoot etc etc., its just fascinating and super entertaining to watch guys at that level.

I agree. And I was thinking the same thing. You really notice it when viewing in slow motion. I watched the entire indoor FIM X-Trials series on MAV TV. You don't notice it much because everything happens so fast. But in slow-mo it's almost like they defy gravity.

It's the same thing as the best extreme enduro riders like Jarvis and Walker except their bike weighs an extra 45 lbs. Since selling my Beta I've been wanting another trials bike but I've been making due by doing what trials skills I can on my WR250. The best motocross riders I personally know have crazy good trials skills yet they have never been on a trials bike. I guess if you can ride, you can ride.

A clutch would still be a welcome addition in my opinion. Even with full torque from 0 rpm I could see the benefit of being able to rev it out and drop the clutch for that "pop" needed to jump up things.
no that is just dumb . a negligble amount of the energy that goes into the "pop" comes from the rotating mass of the engine . its because a petrol engine produces 0 torque at idle . they rev it up and get the engine to the rpm that it can produce the torque required and regulate the torque to the back wheel with the clutch .

if you applied full power to an electric engine fast enough in a bike it would literally throw you on your ass before the wheel had even done half a revolution .

hence no electric drag cars or bikes have a clutch .

With all that torque how do you control wheel spin?
