• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TR650 Screens

Hey guys, l have been asked to post some pics on whatl have done to the stock screen on my Strada to reduce some of the buffeting that l get on a daily ride. So instead of clogging up the Strada top speed post, l throught l would start a new one

I have placed a 3mm grommet under the two top bolts for the screen. This has worked to greatly reduce the buffeting that l havebeen getting have testedit out to 160kph with a increase in the "smoothness" of the ride by tilting the top of the screen up a bit, in effect, increasing the angle of the screen.07-3mmspacer.jpg

When l can get some longer bolts, l will try the 3mmon the bottom with 5mm on the top, hopefully replicating an idea l got of the web, as l still seem to get , greatly reduced, buffeting in traffic.madstadgood.pngmadstadgood.png9madstadbad1.png

Cheers moff69 . I get terrible buffeting with stock screen, removed it after 100km
Naked terra much quieter but winter riding here in NZ not much fun
Gonna try your method tomorrow .

Let us know how you go, l am currently only running the 3mm spacer, and it is so much better.

Hi Moff 69

Appears to be a simple, effective, $friendly solution. Could you please advise where you can purchase
the 3mm grommets. Thanks

I got mine from my local rubber shop, jenkins rubber, but clark rubber should have them or even an auto store, cost about 50cents each.

I have just finished fitting up the 3 and 5mm rubbers, will let you all know how it goes on the morrow.

From the pictures those grommets appear to be roughly 3mm and 5mm for each of the outside lips. What is the total height of the grommet? Maybe 9mm and 13mm?

I ask because, I likely will not be able to get metric grommets locally, so I was going see about grabbing some rubber washers, then stack some regular washers in between to get the desired thickness, still maintaining some of the benefits of the rubber mounting.

Thanks, it's such a simple and cheap solution that I have to try it.

moff69, the smoothest and quietest is NO SCREEN AT ALL, from there it just buffets or gets noisy. The single biggest things that stop buffeting is a lower screen angle or if you cant do that (as with the OEM screen) try lowering the height. I experimented with about 15 different designs and arrived at this, very little noise over no screen and no buffet. Chest blast is reduce (not hugely) and Cell phone on bars stay dry in the rain.

I have just got back from a 200 klic ride this arvo, at 100kph, and what l have done with the screen works well for me, but l did come from an old XR600 that had nothing.

Still a bit un decided, might cut down the 3mm grommet a bit and give it a go, or pack the top out a bit with a couple of washers. I think it is just going to be a bit of playing. I have noticed a lot less buffeting in traffic, but seem to be getting more airflow under the helmet.

I put a madstad screen on my bike a few months ago. The tall one 22". I went out last night and played with different adjustments. When I would push the screen up and out I would get some buffet and a lot of air that felt like it was coming from underneath. I found out that our cool looking side panels might be causing it. I have long legs so I put my toes on the pegs and raised my knees to fill in the curve in the side panels(right under where the TR650 sticker is). This made the wind rush from the bottom hitting my chest and under the helmet instantly stop.
