  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Thought I had water in gas, nope, thought I had head gasket leak, nope

If you're gong to use sealant don't use any of that stuff that you get at the auto parts store it has to many solids in it that will settle into the low areas of you're cooling jackets. Instead go the local pharmacy and pic up a pint of sodium silicate. to use it you want the cooling system flushed of all coolant then get the engine hot with a minimal amount of water in it. After the engine is up to temp add the pint of Sodium silcate put the radiator cap back on and ride the bike for a while to get everything circulating. As soon as get back and with the engine still hot drain the cooling system (get as much out as possible) and let it sit overnight (or longer if possible). the solution will have found it's way into all the pores and as it cures it will seal everything and put a protective coating on all the surfaces. No matter what sealant you use their is a possiblity of ruining the seal in the water pump but my way is a little less intrusive and has a better chance of succes with less possible side effects.

I have used "alumaseal" in bikes with good results. The solids in it are tiny flakes of something. It is presently in my CRF450R and has been in for 3 years. 1/2 dose Stopped the leak and then I never did get around to buying new rads. Doesn't pollute the coolant too much. I carry the other 1/2 in my fanny pack for trail-side emergency repair. Cam.

I agree on taste test, and on a one way coolant leak-it didnt look like coolant to me but where you are more water then coolant it makes sense- the yellow spark does puzzle me,in car and on my 04 tc the spark is blue- I just checked the tc- please update with what you find I am so curious, and by the way that is one good looking husky!

The spark is yellow when I pull the plug when the bike won't start, and the plug appears to be water-logged, I rinse the plug with alcohol, and the spark becomes blue again, and then the bike will start. Also, thanks for the compliment, it's looking rougher all the time but I like it like that!

I did another dual sport ride today, the bike ran great, I just opened the rad cap if we stopped for more than 3 minutes. And it started up perfectly every time.

I am leaning towards NOT using a sealant at this time, just because I do not know for certain what exactly is going wrong with this bike. I don't want to mess up how well everything else about the bike is performing like the water pump seal.

Had a great group today: a GasGas 450, KTM EXC 500, Honda CRF450 and the TE 450

Well at least it didnt fall on the reserve gas tank side,or is that the worlds largest coolant catch can:thinking: The motor pops right out,at least on my 04 carbed motor and replacing the headgasket should only take a few hours of ride time away-one rec though based on the auto side of things straight edge the head for warpage and send it to the local machine shop for a crack check-IE magnaflux it. PS thanks for the video-now I really want to go riding while I am stuck in snow:banghead:
