  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

The JD Power Surge 6X Tuner is...

does this compromise reliability, are you likely to overtune it and damage the engine?
Once plugged in does this leave a lead at the bars that can be plugged unplugged to the unit.

I believe it will increase longevity as the motor will not longer be running lean and it is for sure running noticeably cooler on my bike.

Ok, so I take it it is now using a lot more fuel, the red line for the revs don' rise, its not that type of tuning? It purely increases the fuel/air . The Tuner has buttons that take it thru a series of different presets does this also come back to standard unaltered setting, or even detune for slow muddy days , is this displayed? Unplugging it immediately puts it back to its factory normal state?
Is it practical to be fixed to the bars whilst competing, or using it in serious conditions.
Can its use be detected when plugged into a Dealers diognostics, and render the warranty void.
I'm guessing all this, detailed step by step install with pics is needed.
Is a Power Commander available which could acheive the same results, but fitted safely out the way.

Yes, uses slightly more fuel but not tons as it is running correct now. Yes back to standard maping by putting it all to "3" setting which passes the stock map through. Yes, displayed on the unit.

Correct, it simply interupts the wire going tot he injector and modifies the timeing and duration of the injector as per your settings.

I mounted it to my bars to play with with testing. Then put it on the back side of my number plate / light and can be pulled off viw velcro to adjust as needed. Slick and works great.

i do not know but would think so as it is after the ECU and co,mpletley removalbe very EZ.

It really is a simple device that is small and EZ to install and make remarkable differences in how your bike runs.

If I recall, you can set all the steps to "2" (I guess that is 3 per Kelly) and that is neutral so it is then running with the factory settings.

While the extra power might add stress to the drivetrain, the richer settings are probably making life easier due to running cooler. In most offroad acceleration situations you are traction limited so will often just be turning the throttle a bit less for the same forward momentum. I do know that I was easily able to out accelerate a pack of 450s and 300s on choppy, rocky, hard pack ... and I was the heaviest guy out there...the JD makes an excellent powerband even better and the CTS system hooks it up.

My TXC has the Akro can and the 'power up' done and it seems to work fine with the presets. That said, it is trivial to richen or lean it to suit.

The number 3 is correct. That number essentially passes the stock ecu map through the JD tuner unchanged.

After having my bike set up with an opened air box, JD tuner and slip-on pipes for a while now, I decide to do an experiment. I set my JD tuner to all 3's, taped up the air box holes I drilled and put the oem snorkel back on. I didn't bother putting the stock cans back on because there wan no real performance gain with them alone. What a difference!!! OMG I would sell my bike if that was the maximum power output!!! I've been spoiled and used to the fantastic power my bike has with a few mods.

I have owned dirt bikes, street bikes, atvs, snowmobiles, trikes, boats and PWCs over the past 35 years. The Husqvarna TE630 is by far the most restriced motorcycle from the factory I have ever owned. It also responds to more air, fuel and exhaust flow better than any bike I've ever owned. The potential with the 630 engine is all there from the factory. There are twin exhaust header pipes, a giant air box and filter...and an efi system waiting to be richened up.

Even on a budget you can open up your 630's engine power. Gut your stock pipes, add a JD tuner and carefully drill some holes behind the white side plate in the air box cover. A few hundred dollars and some time spent will be rewarded with a new power house engine. I can't stress this enough!!!

The instructions for my 449 unit say 2 is the pass-through setting. I wonder if it differs from bike to bike.

Good point. Each JD tuner comes preset with suggested settings for that model. Check your owners manual or contact JD directly to be certain.

Just got my JD 6X from Kelly at Motorsportz. He was excellent to deal with and even gave me the settings he is using on his 511. I have been waiting nearly three weeks for an order from Motostrano and Motorsportz got my JD unit here in about 3 days. I am very impressed!

Thanks Kelly!

I also got mine from Kelly and found that it was set to his 511 recommendations....and they worked wonderfully. It is great to have someone like him to use for support (my first question was 'which of the 6 plugs do I use' ...its the one protruding from the back of the throttle body.) I email Kelly from the track and got answers the same day :-)

I like the unit, it seems very easy to use but the install on this bike is a fricken nightmare. Took me ten minutes just to figure out which plug it was and how to get at it. I don't see any way of getting at the plug without a long pair of needle nose pliers. Then once the wiring harness plug is removed you have to work out how to get the controller plugged in.

After a fair bit of fiddling it all goes together but it ain't easy by a long stretch.

Now if the weather would cooperate, I could actually get out and try it. I am excited to see how it changes the motor's performance.

I didn't have any trouble finding the connector, but it took me a while to detach it. I kept trying to squeeze the connector at the top to lift the locking tab, but I couldn't pull the connector off. I finally used a thin bladed slot screwdriver and lifted the locking tab. It then came off easily. Apparently there wasn't enough leverage from squeezing it to raise the tab enough to clear.

Haven't had a chance to try mine out yet, either, other than starting it to make sure everything was hooked up properly, and revving it a bit to see that the tuner display worked properly.

I was amazed how poorly my bike ran when I switched my CO values back to 100, but it really wants to rev now that the tuner's installed. Can't wait!

I called JD about mine and he said that the "stock" setting for the TXC/TE 250 is all 4s so that the 250s could have a wider range of adjustment.

Same for my 11 310 , 4s set it back to standard (or pass-thru if you want to call it that?)
