  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE511 shaving seat down. Any short riders out there?

Hey guys, if all goes well I will be a new owner of a 2013/2014 TE511. It is 37" tall which is tall for me as I am 5' 6" and 28-29" inseam. 150lbs with full leathers on. 145 with regular round town gear.

I plan to install supermoto wheels on the bike in a month or two, but need to squeak by on the bike until then. Is there a decent amount of foam that can be removed from the seat?

I do not care if it uncomfortable, as it is mainly a around town, short commute (22 miles of twisty roads).

If I can legitimately shave the seat down 2" I would likely be perfect on the bike.

My ducati Hypermotard is 34" seat height and I am tip toe one footer at a light but it works out okay and has never been dropped.

My last supermoto was a Husqvarna 450smr and it was 36" seat height. I dropped the front as much as I could and it handled amazingly and was a bit lower which helped.

Can the te511 do with the forks being dropped without tank slapping at 80mph and bucking me off?

I assume I could adjust rear preload/sag down a bit to match the lowered front + the lowered seat, It should workout okay right?

Once the SM wheels are on, I will go a couple months, then have the suspension setup for real supermoto work. Lowered 1"/sprung/valved/ etc.

I bought the bike sight unseen and getting it delivered soon.

Exactly. Your weight the spring needs almost no preload which is good for you as this means lower. Drop the forks a bunch if just riding street. Super stable bike. I've had mine (TE511) to 90 with knobs, still stable. Not a lot of foam in the seat. Maybe do a jell pad?

That is what I figured. Gel would be a must, my leathers have butt pads which make anything tolerable! I hope I love this thing like my old 450. This will be my first real dual sport/knobbies on the street daily, so I am sure it will take getting used too.

I hope I love this thing like my old 450.

I had a 08 TXC450. Now have a TE511. Both used for dirt and some dirt type dualsport riding. I liked my 08 a lot. The 511 seems more refined, smoother, etc. The old 450/510 made a lot of power. The 511 needs uncorked. I think the 449/511 make sexy SMRs.

Seat concepts does not list a low option for the te 511? I am sure with the carving knife I can make a ugly lower mess out of the foam :)

Lower the shock and get one of those nice seats these guys are talking about. In supermoto mode, when youre actually sitting alot, the stock seat starts to feel like a log splitter. I wouldnt dare shave that thing down!

Just look at all the praise the 449/511 gets here on CH and you'll be glad you chose wisely. If that doesn't help, compare what you paid to a comparable KTM or "new Husky" whenever they actualy get around to coming up with prices for them that is.

I sold my 449 last year and bought it back a few months ago. I missed it. Among the 20 bikes I've owned since 1997, it's one of my favorites.

I just got the Seat Concepts "lowered" seat foam for my te310. The seat is much wider then stock for the majority of the length, but with the lowered version it kept my reach to the ground the same while providing a much more comfortable ride.

I think that wider is much worse. My ducati hypermotard at 34" gave me more trouble than my smr450 at 35"....I cant wait for the bike to get here. Literally jumping up and down :)
