  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449 Dyno results

They claim the new 310R puts out 37.8hp, but in reality, I'm guessing no more than 29hp (18ftlbs) at the tire. A stock te449 puts 30.4hp (23.3ftlbs) to the rear tire.

Edit: For comparison, the KTM 350sfx on the dyno is 48.58hp@12,200rpm.

How does the FE350 husaberg compare to the KTM 350sxf? (FE350 felt doughy in low/mid rpm compared to the 310R to me)

Not quite as aggressive, more on tune with a KTM 350 xcw (a step above the exc), much better suspension than the ktm's. The reason why it might feel like less power down low is because of the ratio of hp to torque. These engines are more like 2t's than 4t's meaning they are high rpm machines. Closer to 45hp than 48.

It's hard to figure out which stats results are being done with which mods. Like those TE stats - are they being done when bike is '50 street legal' , and if not , which mods have been done..remapping, ecu, exhaust, etc.

same with the others. I know , since I own a WR - that you can disconnect a grey wire which gives it YZ Fueling and much snappier feeling / more power. I have rode mine before and after - that mod alone makes the bike feel a lot more powerful and I don't think those specs take that into consideration.

it's odd how the ktm exc (street legal) have pretty considerable higher specs then other brands with same engine size.. guess that's why they Kost Too Much

The japs build great bikes and would build even better but politics are being played out with all the emmission stuff so financially it's not worth it. They look the other way with Euro bikes in the past. MAO

Yeah I just hope the future doesn't bring further restrictions and more strict states like California. I live in the Northeast and have a friend that has two YZ's plated. They just hold that clutch in to reduce the sound when they see a cop..:busted:

I like having my liberties when it comes to dirt bikes. So much better to be able to ride to trail , especially if you don't own a truck or trailer.

Every KTM 350 I have rode back to back with my 511, which is several, feels like it has far less power. Like you said they go pretty good on top but lacking everywhere else.
Yes, the SXF model is their high powered model. But the power is on the top end and you have to keep it in the upper rpm's. The torque is still much greater than that of the 310R, but it's spread apart. We had one in the shop for a short time and took it out for a test ride. It was very narrow like my 511, light weight and easy to handle, just smaller, like a mini-511.

I rode a linkage SX 350 and a non linkage off road model 350, amazing how different those bikes are. The SX was MUCH faster. I liked it better. Prefer the linkage as well.

My results for a MY13 TE449 w/ FMF slip on, map 2 and JD tuner. I wanted to run it to understand where the JD recommeded settings had the bike. It was rich everywhere, we leaned out and are slightky above optimum A/F line as it was run w/o quiet core spark arrester which i always run.

this works for now, more then enough to get me in trouble, this winter may see new map 3 and a PCV

That's pretty close to what I would expect from at TE449 with those modifications. 40hp 27ftlbs. Considering the 449 is about 5hp shy of a 511 with similar mods that typically has 45hp.

Mods that will boost your output will be things like an iridium spark plug, TC449 air filter lid, TC449 mega-bomb +4.1rct silencer w/mod quiet-spark insert, ECU remap and/or PCV with Zipty mapping w/autotune. I imagine you getting closer to 46-49 hp with these mods.

Is Zipty selling modded quiet-spark inserts?

So it looks like I might be able to pick up a few ponies by using a TC449 air filter lid. It sounds like it has additional air inlets, is that a cause for concern when doing water crossings? Does anybody have a picture of one?

TThere isn't a huge concern with water crossings if your drain is open. I have an image around here somewhere.

A picture would be greatly appreciated as I am trying to build a light Adventure bike and would like to be careful with mods which could cause problems on an extended trip. Looks like my computer was dropped off at Zipty today for upgrade....woo hoo!

2012 TC449 Air box cover. $23.99

My te511 dyno# 52.18hp with custom air box mod, pcv, fmf4.1 and she is beastly. However not hard to ride compared to my 01yz426 with jd jets and stage 1 hotcams. That freaking bike is a handful. Overall Power delivery from the fi on the husky is boss!
