  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE449/511 Fuel injection reflash?

makis

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have a 2011 TE511 and have heard that I can have the dealer reflash the fuel injection to 2012 specs. Have any of you done this procedure? If so, what differences did you notice? Was it worth the trouble/expense? Thanks in advance.

Reflash ? Never heard of it. JD Tuner/Aftermarket Muffler is the ticket, IMO, for getting the most out of this motor. I'm sure there are
other things you can do but for me JD/FMF = :D:banana::thumbsup:

I have the FMF muffler and jumper wire, but I still experience the occational flame out. It mostly occurs when I'm riding in tighter sections. I was hoping a simple "remap" might do the trick. I've read a lot of positives about the JD Tuner. I suppose I'm just going to have to pony up and install one.

Dealers who have the required equipment can re-map the ecu to newer year models. Some users have success with flame outs with the JD tuner, some do not.

I believe the problem lies in the Keihin ecu and Husqvarna's map settings. The husky maps were created with the idea of shaping the power curve so that power is softer on first roll on and increases later. With the use of a powercommander 5, power can be applied more linear and I have heard about greater success with the pc5. Unfortunately the pc5 is expensive and complicated to install and setup.

I have a 2012 and just got the reflash for my te511 yesterday. I won't be riding the bike for about a week but when I do I will post up results of the reflash.
I already had a FMF slip on with the powermap 2 jumper installed, the bike ran fine but did suffer from the occasional (too often) flame out as others have described. Hopefully this will help.
One of the people at the shop I use is a long time buddy and would not steer me wrong about this. He did it for free so there was no real incentive for him to install it other than just helping a bro out.

What did you get reflashed to already having a 2012 model?

I am interested because I have a 2012 449 that stalled twice on one short single track section.

I have jumper and fmf but no JD tuner.

Interesting. Let us know how it goes.

I know we all dork with these engines but I love this motor and feel it is a very good do it all motor. Versatile and deceptively fast.

Not sure, but I have known the guys for years. I believe it is for the full akropivic system (that is not available here in the states), but I am not 100% on this. I will ak him the particulars and post up soon.

I have an 11 TE449 and just went through this. For history was running stock pipe, power up jumper with JD tuner and very pleased with results. Changed to Akropovik slip on and bike ran aweful regardless of JD tuner settings. Removed JD tuner and had dealer reflashed ECU to 2012 specs. (they would not re-program with JD tuner connected to bike) Have only ridden in driveway but seems much improved. Have a ride planned next weekend and will report results.

How hard is it to tune the jd tuner? I don't have a clue when it comes to that sort of stuff.
The JD Tuner comes pre-programed with the optimal settings so once installed it's ready to rip. The instructions explain how to fine tune it pretty clearly.
For the price it's the best mod you can do for more power, IMO, but I think an aftermarket exhaust/ tuner is ideal.

Thanks for all of the info! I'm going to call my local dealer and see what they would charge for a reflash. I went riding today and, for the most part, the bike did awsome. Unfortunately, I did experience quite a few of those dreaded flameouts. I turned the idle up with the bypass screw, but it did not eliminate the problem. I have a feeling I'm still going to end up with the JD tuner regardless of the reflash. There are just too many on here praising the power gains. For those of you that have reflashed, but have yet to really ride the bike, please let us know how the bike does once you get a chance to put it through the paces.
Thanks

Any updates? Wouldn't mind a map more suited to the Full TI Akra I have on my SMR.

I talked with the guy that installed it. He said it is the map that is used for the full akropovic system so it may work out very well for you.
He said it came with the toolkits and service software packets for dealers.
Like I said, he did it free, so there was no incentive other than to help a bro out. He is an old friend from my Roadracing/street track days - so, that is really the connection on why he would do this.
Hope this helps.
I think writing Husqvarna would offer more definitive answers on this.
Good luck!

I called two Husky dealerships that are somewhat close to me. The first one said that their Husky tech was away at school right now and that when he got back they would give me a call (They are a fairly new dealership). He did say that he felt it would be no big deal to download the new injection settings, but he was unsure of what the cost would be.
The second dealership told me I should try and run it with the stock pipe. They had only sold one 511 and after much playing around, they felt the stock pipe worked best. He told me that if it still flamed out that I could bring in the bike and they could see if a more up to date tune was available. This dealer did not seem to be a big fan of the Keihin fuel injection system because of the lack of adjustability. That seemed a bit odd to me, because from everything I've read the Keihin should be a superior system than the Mikuni. He seemed very knowledgeable, but since I've already plunked down hard earned dollars for the FMF, going back stock doesn't really appeal to me. So, I'll be waiting for the first dealership to call me back so I can talk to the tech.

I just got a used 2011 TXC511 The power plug has been installed and the dealer said it had been mapped. It has the factory (non Akra) pipe but the spark arrestor/silencer has been removed.

I took it out for the first time sunday and I had a bunch of flame outs. Happened in tight sections of the trail. Some of it can be user error but I do not have the same problem with my YZ250F in tight trails. From what I can tell looking at power curves the new pipes and power commanders seem to only add horse power at 4000 RMP and above. But that is just my interpretation of the data and not sitting on a bike. So what is it guys, did it feel like these add-ons gave you any more low end torque?

I have a '11 TXC449, it didn't come with the Akra either. I asked the dealer and they said that the last shipment that they got didn't come with it. I don't know. Any way, I have none of these issues, and I am running stock exhaust, with just the power plug.

@ SloChicken and tduzzi, Have you ridden your bike with the reflash? Did it help?
Just got back from a little desert trip,
The bike worked fine. Seemed to have a little more power and less flame outs. They are still there though.
One thing I found, the suspension is a big freakin marshmallow in the technical stuff and whoops. I was using ALL the travel, and I wasn't even riding all that hard.
Springs are next for this thing if it has any hope of being a raceable machine.
