  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE310R owner input

Husqvarna
AA Class
Currently have a Tiger 800XC and I really would prefer something much more off road oriented.

The local BMW dealership has a 2014 TE310R in stock for $6500 out the door. Ive researched the best I can short of calling ZypTy racing or that Halls dealership to ask them about the bikes.

I seem to have gathered that the 2014 has different color wheels and graphics than a 13, but nothing else.
What I am wondering is if they really are unrideable out of the box due to restriction.
I due plan to use this as my main bike for 3 months or so. Short commute to work at no more than 50mph.
I have wanted to have a real dirtbike for a while but had to be realistic with a commuter bike.

Big things I'd like to know.. did these usually ship with a power up kit in the crate? The dealership made it seem like they didnt have one. Is there any online vendor that sells it? I've had no luck finding one.

I would have no problem doing all of the work on it and would actually prefer to due so. I want to get a look at those finger follower valves.

Thanks for any input on this bike

I mostly only pay attention to the 11-12 310's and the 449/511 but a power commander and exhaust seem to be a cure all for everything else. Either way, I gave you a bump back to the top and hopefully someone else replies ;)

Only thing I would say is that with it's smaller displacement and very tight gearbox you can't really have it work good on the trails and the road unless you're willing to mess with changing the gearing between the two (if you want to do hard-core off-road).
A larger displacement like the 449 would give you a much broader range as an actual d/s bike.

Basicly at minimum you need a dealer to flash husky map 2, Remove cat in head pipe and change air box horn to txc or modify yourself. Mine still has charcoal canister and o2 sensor...these don't effect anything by changing. The o2 sensor though is bypasses by map 2. It will run well and with full power of a txc. I tossed on a slightly taller trials tire and have 13/47 gearing and it works fine in the technical and will run somewhat comfortable cruising 45-50 with spurts every now and then.

I am running the same 13/47 gearing on mine as well and it is great for tight single track and you can ride 50mph. Depending on how tight of trails you plan on riding, you may be able to go a couple less teeth on the rear for a little more top speed.
Based on the dealer's response on the power up option, it doesn't sound like they know Huskys very well. I had the same experience with the dealer I bought mine from(Birmingham, AL). They didn't know how to power it up and I had to take it to another dealer and pay $90 for them to flash the race map on it. The bike is basically unrideable with the stock map. Like bent70 said, buy a TXC air filter cage, pull the red plug out of the airbox and get the race map flashed on the ECU and it runs like it should. Oh, and pull the catalyst out of the exhaust. It is in between the header and muffler. I removed the O2 sensor and put the plug in my header but this is not necessary. The race map ignores it.
Personally, I bought mine for off road with the ability to connect trails by riding small sections of pavement. If I wanted something that was more comfortable for street, I would look elsewhere. I haven't ridden any of the bigger Huskys except a TE630 and it was much more comfortable on the street but would be a handful in the dirt compared to a 310.

I have a 12 te 310 and had the full power up done , airbox , ecu , o2 sensor and removed all smog crap , unplugged pipe removed throttle stop and everything else is stalk , gearing , sprockets stalk and I hit 55 - 60 pretty easy of coarse I mostly ride fireroads and adventure ride .

I'll only be using this bike as a commuter and nothing super serious off road at first. I cant risk getting hurt by riding serious trails before going to boot camp. But! I really like this bike and I dont know if another Husky deal like this is going to be happening.

Thanks for the input. I will find out if the dealership has the software to play with the ECU on the Huskies.

Bought my 2014 for $6150 including taxes and plates about a month ago. With all the great help from guys on this site this is what I did to uncork it:
Installed FMF Q4 slip on, removed charcoal canister, removed O2 sensor and bought an M12 x 1.25 drain plug from Advance Auto to plug the sensor hole, removed the catalitic converter when I removed the stock slip on, installed unrestricted trumpet and air filter cage from the TXC310 and had the dealer reflash the ECU to race map. He only charged me $21.00 for the reflash. I also bought a set of supermotard wheels with a 47 tooth sprocet. The stock 40 tooth sprocket will now go on the motard wheels and the 47 tooth will be on the dirt wheels.

How do you like the FMF Q4 slip on?

The FMF Q4 is great. It's only a few pounds lighter than stock but it lets the engine breathe better, rev faster and has more torque down low. I thought it would be quieter, it's pretty loud when you're on the gas but sounds good.

I've had all the same things done with the exception of the silencer-I still have stock. My dealer has reflashed the ECU-to what, I don't know. The bike runs good now but I'm leary about changing out the exhuast becuase the shop had to reflash my bike a couple of times before it ran right and I'm worried a more open exhaust would require it again (it's an eighty mile round-trip to the dealer so if it doesn't run right it's kind of a pain).

If you have not dropped the hammer yet - consider getting a 449 or 511. I went in to buy a 310 too - and through a semi miracle they broke the one I was coming to buy (another bike fell on it or something). The owner let me take his 511 for a spin - and I walked out the door with a new 449 - could not be happier. Some really minor setup and it flat out rips.

I finally got to ride the 310 and I have to say I would have been VERY disappointed had I got my way with the 310. Even dialed in it felt so vanilla. My 449 outweighs it by a few pounds, but feels lighter in the tight stuff - the crazy geometry just works.

Not sure where you are, but the new 449's in St. Louis are $6000 out the door - seriously.

So I did it. I bought the 2014 TE310R yesterday and within 24 hours put 140 miles on it and got the ECU flashed to the full power map.
I havent had a chance to do any other mods to it but it needs it still.

With just the ECU flash, I cant romp on the throttle wide open or it falls flat. It is more rideable down low but not being able to really brap it bothers me. I suppose with the CAT coming out and the intake getting modded it will help.

If not, I read somewhere on here about resetting the TPS without dealer tools.

So far its hurt my ass, big time. But its worth it and it is absolutely awesome off road without it even running 100%.

I am curious though... where do people buy parts for these things? I got a HiFlo 116 filter because it shares it with a Honda filter, but as far as say... an FMF exhaust, I cant find any sites that have aftermarket parts for the 13/14 TE310R models =[

Congrats... If you search this site more fully you will find out the primary changes that go hand in hand with the open map (mainly swapping out the restrictive air filter cage). Many threads clearly explain the power up for the 13 and 14 as well on oil and filters. If you are seeking aftermarket parts, be specific and folks can help. Most anything is available from sponsors here first or from the bigger retailers.
