B Class
First off, I only ride single-track mountain terrain, so please ignore if you are interested in other setups.
I bought the bike new in November with 0 miles and immediately put on the JD tuner. It helped alot with the low end bog. However, it was never really responsive enough, so I put in the 12 port Kawasaki injector. This helped a ton, but you have these weird pulsations when riding steady in low rpm. You notice this mostly on the street. I think this is why you really need the 2012 txc ecu. That said, I would still do the 12 port w/jd over nothing. I actually ordered the ECU and will put it in next week. Also, when I took out the 4 port injector, 3 of the holes were gummed up. The likely cause is ethanol gas. So now I only put the non-oxygenated clear gas in it, but it's hard to find.
One thing that has really helped with the low-end issue is to put on a 12t front sprocket and the 50t rear. With this gearing it idles at 4 mph and you engine brake down steep hills at 6mph. I think it is the perfect setup for single-track if you are not a fast rider. Top speed is right around 65mph with this gearing. On most of trails I ride in 2nd or 3rd, I like having 1st available for really bad sections.
The other items I have put on the bike are Cycra handguards and a Ricochet skid plate. The front suspension is about 1/8" off max low on the brackets and the preload is set to about 1" of threads still showing. I am only 5'9", so this works about perfect for me. I don't worry too much about the ground clearance as that Ricochet skid plate is like a tank.
I have left the stock Karoo tires on and am actually impressed with their performance. They absorb shock pretty well and provided plenty of traction over many roots, logs, and much steep terrain.
The other riders were riding both trannys of the KTM 300 2t and the KTM 450 4t mx. The husky has no problem tackling narly steep stuff and I easily kept up on the steep sections with no problems. After riding the 2t and 4t ktms, I can say the Husky does single-track with a lot more finesse and comfort. You can tell the bike is really in it's element. The 450 was especially tiring, felt like I was trying to control a rocket, I was happy to give it back. The 300 2t just doesn't have that low-end grunt like the Husky, but I think they would be a lot of fun if I were a faster rider.
I guess my point is that the TE310 is good bike for any class of rider for single-track riding. The only drawbacks are that it is bit high and it is liquid cooled. It is pretty easy to knock a rad hose off if you fall in some branches. Both issues can be fixed by being a better rider.
