  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Then you better not leave that thing sitting around where I can get to it and swap parts :-)

Guess I'll be locking up this, then.

Kinda late to this thread. Anyway, how about changing the gearing and maybe adjust your idle?
Thanks Dan, Great minds think alike, i went to my local friendly Husky dealer yesterday and got new chain and sprockets, now running 13/52.
We have a 12 hour race here this weekend that I am in so I will let you know on Monday how it went!!

Good luck on your race :) Sometime the fix can be something easy. 13/52 sounds perfect.

What gearing did you have before? I run the standard 13 51 and just invested in a rekluse clutch which is fantastic no more stalling in tight riding around creeks tress etc well worth the investment I think.

I also noticed last night starting it up from cold there was a little smoke, it went away once it was warmed up.
i checked the oil level, I must have put a bit too much in on the recent change, it was about 3/4 up the glass. Can this cause the somke?

I think it can and notice mine does almost every start up until the motor starts to get warm. Also every time I clean the air filter I notice a small amount oil laying in the intake boot I believe from excess coming from the head hose, into the frame and back to the intake boot. That's why I believe mine does anyway and I know my 250s hoses are routed a little different than the 310s

Both my 2008 TE250 and 2010 TE310 has oil in the airbox and never smoke. Smoke at start-up I would look into the head and oil leaking into the chamber. Smoke goes away when the tolerances are reduced after motor comes up to temps.

Guess I'll be locking up this, then.

with that type of gearing the chain guide will wear through in a few rides (plastic and guide frame)
I all so found that first and second gear were basically useless .I had this same set up.

Yes, I made a new chain guide after one ride on the one pictured.

It depends on where and how you ride. I still use first as much if not more than any other gear.

Get the 511 , it's tits for the down low chugging threw anything ... Mine has never bogged out around idle... A 13-51t will get you threw the worst stuff .... Fist gear crawls threw steep rock sections is where she feels at home

Bike rode great on the weekend, gearing changed helped ALOT!! On the other hand I still need some work;) Stock gearing for the Aussie model was 13/50.
The smoke has stopped, I had just cleaned and oiled the Airfilter, looks like I might not have squeezed enough oil out of it after re oiling the filter.
Thanks for all your help and input guys, much appreciated...... GO HUSKY

Have you got any trouble with installing the rekluse.I have one on my husky 310 2012.Rekluse makes trange noise at low gear when I start riding with the bike once the bike is riding it works fine.Only when the bike needs to pull for starting a hill climb or start riding there is the strange noise in the clutch. It's just like the clutch is between working and not working in those 2 seconds. Can someone help me.

On my 09 TE310 I went from 13/52 to 12/49 and I like this the best. I would have not believed it, but that 1 tooth on the rear makes enough difference that I don't have to use the clutch nearly as much in the tight stuff, and it still has acceptable top speed for me.

13/52 = 4.00
12/49 = 4.08
I dont see how you can tell the difference?

I agree, doesn't seem like much, but it works for me.

Yep, I know what you mean ..The numbers don't show much but somehow the bike's engine REVs different .... It seems to me like the smaller FS causes the engine to REV ~quicker where the larger RS just seems to add more grunt to the overall feel of the bike ... There is also some physics involved as the different sized sprockets on the front and rear of the bike change the leverage forces applied to the rear wheel for traction .... These same forces are what the CTS on the 449 bikes eliminate ...

dekeersmaecker on your reklise issue I installed my with any problems and it is working fine. Make sure you put the small orings under the first drive plate this will stop any squeal noises. Also make sure you have set the free play gain correctly and the drive plates fit smoothly on the hub splines to the plates move easly when the slucth is released.
