  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

A Class
I recently got a 2012 TE-310 after upgrading from my DR-350s. I ran it on the street doing low revs for 70 miles before doing an oil change for break in. The bike feels nice, and I was surprised by its high in stock form, as I am pretty tall and was on my tipy toes. after running it a little after the 1st service I finally decided to take it off road, at Gorman OHV. Conditions were sandy but the weather was nice considering it was 90+ in the surrounding area. I unloaded the bike, made a slight idle adjustment and went off. After the first ride I felt very comfortable and I was really impressed with how good it it performed off-road. I got into some nasty stuff, and even though I wasn't pushing due to the conditions and I didnt wanna over rev the engine still early in its life span, the bike was able to pull me out of trouble. So far the only 2 handling fixes I need to make is a wobble going down hill in the front and at speed the rear wobbles. It never felt super uncomfortable but it was defiantly enough to make you feel a little nervous. So far all I have done is drop the forks down in the clamps, lowered the rear shocks, and softend compression and rebound in the rear. Im excited to see how the bike will work with better conditions, more power, and fine tuning the forks, but overall the bike ran great.

Sounds good except for the wobbles ... Not sure what would cause that ... I've only ridden the 250 models, 08 and 010, but both perform very well in the woods and all off road areas I have been in ...

Keep us posted with a ride report maybe in the near future..

I agree, a bit concerend with the wobbles. These machines track very well, no head shake etc. Are you sure its not just the wheels out of alignment due to the internal tyre clamp (senior moment here cant recall the clamps real name) that stops the nobbies from slipping, or the nobbies them selves?
Good luck with the 310, they are real ST champions.

it could have just been how sandy it was but I definatly need to get them balanced as I do a lot of street riding and a few trails by my house you can really open it up.

If the wobble is at speed (over 50mph or so), then I'd definitely try balancing the wheels.

Rim lock is the term you were looking for.

Street riding....TE 310 Kinda like taking a playboy model to an all you can eat..... All your going to do is screw up a good thing....... Just my opinion.
hahahaha, yeah I get that now, my dr-350 was a better street/dirtbike, my te-310 is a better dirt bike. I think I found a little speed today and cant wait till it gets the full treatment.

Hey I also have a 2012 TE310 and still have my 1991 DR350S (over 13k miles).
The wobble is probably unbalanced tires. I feel it too a bit over 45 mph.

How do you like the TE over the DR? I love the lower weight, but the 350 seems to be a bit peppier down low but the TE hits like a 2 stroke at higher RPMS. The TE suspension is also 100% better for jumping and trhe electric start is great compared to the hard starting DR .

I do have a 49 tooth on the DR and the 40 tooth sprocket on the TE.

I soon plan to get a 48 or 50 tooth on the TE which I assume will make it peppier/more torque.

Think I saw you at Gorman...I was a little freaked out to see another Husky there. I was on my new (to me) TXC511. Was this Sunday morning?

yeah I feel the same way, the DR was a great bike for what it was and after a few mods it really turned into a trail monster. On the streets I could feel how restricted the 310 was, and efi was on the fence with me, but after taking the bike in the dirt I could feel this was its true home. Once I complete the few mods I wanna do and change the gearing I hope its as snappy and ruthless as the DR-350 lol. One big test the 310 passed was reliability, as I was spending more time fixing the bike than riding, but the 310 was solid and I learned a few things such as keep everything greased. I dropped it hard and only tore a grip and broke a brake lever. The throttle tube felt shity so I tore it apart, cleaned it and greased it and it felt 100%. Let me know hows yours feels with the gearing:cheers:

Don't neglect tightening the spokes. Loose spokes will make a bike handle terrible. I know this from experience, (pre Husky's). A new bike will need it's spokes tightened at least two or three times untill they are settled.

I checked mine a few days ago and they all seemed to be in tune. I think I am getting closer to getting the bike to feel the way I want and found a few more HP as well.
