  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

TE 250/310 screw rubs coolant line

mainjet

Husqvarna
Ok back racing ,took the starter out and that fixed my 2013 310 txc for one race at awrcs !But now a DNF at powerline park Gncc because you all at Husky will not fix a on going problem !Yes i DNF and you could have caused engine failer and your all well awear of the on going problem****************************************
Im upset let me repeat DNF the stupid screw in the fuel tank cover above the coolant line rubs on it and threw in in time, lets say not long to do so!
HUSKY Stand up and fix them ! I DNF i dont buy new bikes to work on them and or play games and not finish my races!

Since the subject here raises a new issue, I created a new thread.

That said, it does seem to raise a NEW issue, not one that we have been talking about here at Cafe Husky. Are others having a problem with a coolant line being rubbed by a tank cover (shroud?) screw?

Zip-Ty does have a husqvarna tank spacer kit. They also make a husqvarna gas tank elbow. From what I've read the stock one is plastic and breaks off easily when removing the tank

Forget it, all these new bikes new major tinkering before they are race worthy. Its a pain in the ass if you ask me. And dont get me started on fuel injection, it's total crap.

I noted this awhile ago on my bike and have an easy solution for anyone with same issue. I asked for warranty service and only got a new hose from Husky. Never provided was the real fix which I had to do myself, ie.. spacers and screws. Zip Ty then created some spacers for Husky to address this but you still should source one button head screw to replace that hex head if that's what you have. This IMO is a major safety issue as it could result in breaking the fuel petcock or scalding radiator fluid. Not to have the company do a wider tech bulletin or recall suprised me especially for street legal bikes. In the end I don't have much faith in any product I buy today. I use and inspect carefully everything since everything in the last year has failed within warranty periods. A sign of the times.

ZipTy spacer and replacing the screw with a round head will fix the problem. Incidentally, on my '12 TE310 the stock screw is nowhere near the coolant hose. They must have re-routed the cooling lines with the Redhead. I do plan to install the ZipTy spacers, however, to get more clearance for the wiring loom that had to be re-routed over the left radiator when I installed my Enduro Engineering radiator braces.

Thanks, we will make sure to check this out on our 310....havent noticed a problem, but wasnt looking for this one.

I too am worn out from issues with my beloved, however race prep is always important. all chafe points and potential chafe and fail issues must be thought out and fixed before they break or fail... Husky- not ready to race,,,,,,KTM ready to race. the TXC310R is a brilliant machine but requires alot of race prep bullet proofing. Mine is still in my heart but has had alot of issues, unrelated to prep, purely mechanical and electrical failures.

Weve not had any issues after doing the starter gear fix (free from Husky) in the spring....wrapped up our GP series win early again due to a string of mostly 1st place finishes. No DNFs.

We still have another 100 mile race and then a 24 hour team race to go this year, but our experience says all will be well...and we will beat younger guys on orange bikes...again :)

We do not do an exceptional amount of maintenance....and this isnt our first rodeo. Our 310 and other Husqvarnas havent been any more difficult to keep race ready than the Hondas and KTMs (and Suzukis, Yamahas and Bultacos  ) that weve ridden before. Change the oil often and keep everything snug and lubed as appropriate.

Ready to Race is about as factually accurate as Ultimate Driving Machine, and Mercedes is still not 'there yet' either ;)

Speaking of Mercedes.... They source the crappiest windshield washer nozzles. Plastic U-clips that clip to the washer arm. They fall off any time you touch the wiper and both broke within 50k miles. PLastic just decomposed cracked and fell off. I hope that's not what MB uses on their race cars ;-) Mine are zip tied on waiting for replacement from "authorized" Sprinter dealer.

I was always used to race prep as much had to be done, from breathers and catch bottles to safety wiring of all fluid fasteners, etc.. I would have noted the Husky issues in time. But when you buy a street legal model, I do expect them to be 100% buttoned up and supported. Not sold as a race bike and has a longer warranty. That warranty should mean safe for on road travel and not stall everywhere and bleed fluids and fuel. Obviously the good dealers pick up the slack, but the poor owner that is not aware of race prep for their street bike will be suprised. It's these times when a manufacturer has to understand many buyers simply walk away and never buy that brand again. It is Cafe Husky that filled that void for me and why I worked through any issues. Resigned to crappy QC today I knew whether Honda, Yam, Husky or KTM, anyting could crop up and hinder the use of any brand. In the end though still a machine on 2 wheels and one cylinder. I was determined to not let it get the best of me.

There are three spots on mine where a coolant hose is going to be worn thru and eventually leak. I just cut some old heater hose and zip tied it over my existing hose to protect it. Good enough for now. I'm one of those few morons who paid $7500 for his bike so getting rid of it is not an option. Thanks Husky!!

KTM's ready to race!!! LMAO!! I've owned 4. A 450 EXC that would over heat all the time, a 250f that I had to jet AT the dealership to get it to start, a 200 2t that would rip my arms out of the sockets and a 300 2t that was just a bear to ride. That was a great two years. The funny thing is, and I keep repeating this, is my 05 CRF250R was about the best bike I've ever owned. Sweet power for the woods, suspension I didnt even notice, and plenty leftover for those 2 foot sandy whoops.

If somebody offered a bulletproof wiring loom for my TE310 I would buy one. Current one looks like it was wired by crack smoking squirrels. It seems to me you could use some heavier gauge wire and still come out to around the same weight by sharing a ground on the loom going to the front of the bike and changing a few things. For example, why does the wiring for the horn have to go all the way back to the battery, then forward again to the horn? Why not put the ECU access plug under the tank next to the ECU to avoid all that wire going up front?

Ask Mikey...he hates everything.

I had a $75 lawn mower like that once....couldnt kill it, no matter how we abused it - lasted over 20 years on the original oil!

OTOH my $500 Toro has been jury-rigged 6 ways to Sunday to keep it usable.

And I agree with the sentiment that street legal dirt bikes should not be marketed as DR/XR/KLR substitutes. The only bike in the outgoing Husky lineup that I would want as a street bike is the Strada/Terra....and it could stand a bit more baking to be done. Of course the same applies to the KTMavarnas...Im not convinced a 990 is a street durable unit...though I base that on scant evidence.
