• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Supermoto tire question:

I just put on the new Bridgestone S20's. Only a few rides but very pleased. They stick great and are confidence inspiring. The stock tires are junk. I took them off the bike before they were even worn out.

I am curious of what pressures everyone is running? I am use to dropping the pressure some on sportbikes, but have never got a definitive answer about a supermoto. The bike does feel better to me dropping the pressure a few pounds. Thoughts?

I'm running 32psi. Recommended. I think the rear tire lasts longer that way. The tire guy (MTW Racing) say's so too. He races motoX and rides a dual sport.

I run about 24-25 in the rear of my 630sms if there is more spirited riding to be done.

How long have you had these tires?!? These are the ones I want but didn't know of anyone with s SM that had these. They seem like the best bang for you buck if you do only street, brand new tire from BS and still only about $210 shipped.
 
I have about 350 miles on them. I am very happy with them and would get them again. The bike feels very planted compared to stock tires. I was always very happy with the BT016's on my R1. Have probably ran four sets of the 016's on it.
 
I have gone through 2 sets of conti's and they worked great. My only complaint is tread life. I got between 1800-2100 miles on the rears. Also if you commute a lot you will get a flat spot big time. Not an issue if you are using the bike to do canyons as you wont be spending time going straight. I just put a bridgestone 016 on yesterday to see if I get more miles out of them.

I see your problem... Chicken Strips! :p

You might try the Michelin Pilot Power 2CT if you want longer center life but don't want to give up max grip, but if you know you're not going to be using the whole tire anyway, you could probably get 3x the treadlife in a sport-touring tire.

I think you'll prob get chicken strips on most tires if you do a lot of stop and go city driving. I have over 2,000 on my rear tire, but it's ready to be replaced.

When i say chicken strips, i mean the bike hasn't been over far enough to even rub off the mold hairs/nipples.
If you look at the side of the tire and they're not scuffed all the way to the edge, you could have taken that corner faster :D
 
Some times laying it over far isn't the best thing. I mean, if you can keep the bike more upright and still take the corner as fast as someone draggin knee then it's fair game right? I know these arent sportsbikes but the science is the same, watch Keith Codes Twist of the Wrist II. More upright the bike is the more tire contact patch, more grip, possibly faster speed throughout the turn. Either way, passing liter bikes in turns on a SM is sick!
 
Depending on the tire and the wheel it's fitted to, SM tires actually have a much larger contact patch in lean than straight up. Also, you won't be able to go round as fast with the bike more upright unless you get off of the bike and shift your weight to the inside (knee dragging).

SM's have a higher clear lean angle than a lot of sportbikes, which makes this less important.

In the tight stuff on an SM, it's usually quicker to lay the bike down and sit in the middle of the seat all the way forward, sometimes even with your inside leg up (for clearance) or out front (for weight distribution).
 
I agree! As I do keep mine upright as I lean off in the faster sweepers, not to the point of dragging knee but on one butt cheek. On the slower tight turns the bike just naturally leans better as I push it under me and stay centered on it like you said. I'm just saying ave joes like me won't be leaning the bike over motogp style! But I do agree w you, I prefer the 150/60 tires over 160 for that reason, there's more contact patch at the lean angles due to the profile.

I rolled the edges off of the original 150 Diablo that came on my 630, been running 160 since then. The current set of 160 Pilot Powers were scuffed to both edges after ~30 miles :D
(Playing in the mountains is why I had to go and make me some peg sliders...)

Yeah, 4.25".

Also, after one "average" trip up the mountain, I had some good scrubbing on my new homemade peg sliders :D
This was half a dozen leg-out corners, so it didn't have much pressure, but later on I scrubbed them good on a knee-drag sweeper, so that took off some more material.

Has anyone used the conti-force?

Thats whats next for me, the Conti-force SM tires. I'll let you guys know.
I dont get any kind of mileage. First tire wore out in 700 miles, I think it was a dunlop smartmax?
My second tire , conti-motion , got about 1000 miles , got about 2000 of the current Pilot Power , I have liked that best.

Always wants to slide out a little when making a 90 degree low speed turn . like pulling out and turning from a light or stop sign.

I also run 160's on the rear and use up ALL the tire to the edge. And agree about not having to slide off the seat much to go corner fast.
