• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Supermoto tire question:

I have Dunlop Sportsmax tires front and back. When cornering, the rear tire keeps sliding out on me. The tire pressure is right and the tire is not worn out. Does anyone have that problem? Is there a better street tire for the SM 610? I never ride off road.

Thx

Michelin Pilot Power. Get the 160 2CT in the rear and the center will last longer. I've got them on my 630 and couldn't be happier compared to the stock Diablos...

Got the same problem, since day 1.

I thought there was something wrong with me, glad there's not......unless of course there is something wrong with both of us:D

I took the 45 tooth sprocket off as soon as I bought mine back in 05.... The 42 is much better for street use only...

My 630 SMS came with a 15/38, but after the tweaking, tuning and hacking, it'll power up in second and clutch up in 3rd and run up the mountain just fine. With the slippery stock Diablos, I could drift it out of the low-speed corners.

If I wanted more grunt I could change the gearing, but I do too much commuting to want to jack up my cruising RPM...

The slipping out problem on the Dunlop SportMax occurs anytime, in dry conditions on level and even blacktop and when you least expect it.
The most repeatable offence is coasting around a corner @ +- 25kmh with zero throttle and giving it a slight lean.
It is not a complete slide, just a slip, it feels as though the tire slipped about 1 inch (25 mm).

It definitely does not inspire confidence.
Wonder if it is a general SportMax problem or maybe just a bad batch of tires.

That's how the Diablos felt but only if I rolled on the throttle early. Never got too loose, just got a bit sketched out by the back end walking around unpredictably. Tried as I might, I couldn't even make the Pilot Powers do that, and they're scrubbed to the edges now.

ETA: What was the production date on your Dunflops?

That's exactly how it feels. good description.

I think the Dunlops are stock from 2006. I bought the bike with 125 mi on it and I'm at 1,900 now. I don't see any dry rot. I have the same tires on my Triumph Street Triple and no problems at all.

Part of the issue is the power delivery with a big single. For the same amount of average thrust, the peak thrust is much higher because it comes in bigger pulses compared to a multi-cylinder engine putting out a similar average thrust in the same situation. The lack of a cush drive doesn't help matters.

My ride is a 2010 SM 630m, a little bit different to your 06 SM 610 in terms of weight etc.
The problem is either a SM issue or linked to the Sportmax's as I have 3 other Dirt bikes and none of them exhibit this issue.

Bridgestone Battlax BTO16 work the best for me. I can out brake and accelerate most of the sport bikes I ride against in the tight twisties. These tires don't give up anywhere, and the thump is irrelevant.
